These new regulations are expected to help improve the situation of unfair competition on online sales platforms in the world's most populous nation.

In recent years, many e-commerce platforms in China have been caught up in a price war with slogans like "lowest price of the year" or "lowest price on the internet," even putting pressure on businesses to sell at low prices to attract customers.

According to the Beijing News, to rectify this situation, China's revised Anti-Unfair Competition Law has added a provision requiring platforms not to directly or indirectly pressure businesses operating on their platforms to comply with their pricing rules to sell goods below cost. Large enterprises are also prohibited from using their position to impose unreasonable terms or delay payments for goods, services, and other debts owed to small and medium-sized enterprises.

The People's Forum website points out that the new law also specifically regulates unfair competition practices such as data infringement, and clarifies many specific forms of "malicious transactions" in practice. Accordingly, businesses are not allowed to abuse the platform's rules to directly or indirectly instruct others to carry out fraudulent transactions, false reviews, or intentionally return goods with malicious intent to harm the legitimate rights and interests of other businesses.

In addition to tightening related regulations, the new law also clarifies the obligations of platform management entities to ensure fair competition.

According to the Southern Daily, the new regulations require e-commerce platform managers to clearly state the rules of fair competition in platform service agreements; when detecting unfair competition from businesses on the platform, they must promptly apply necessary measures in accordance with the law, retain relevant records, and report to the competent authorities.

The Guangming Daily commented that the revised Law on Combating Unfair Competition has directly addressed key issues and removed obstacles to competition management in the digital economy . This will play a crucial role in the future development of China's digital and smart economies.
