Attending the event were Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bedzetko, Belarusian Ambassador to Vietnam Uladzimir Baravikou, representatives of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association, representatives of a number of Vietnamese organizations and units, including the Ho Chi Minh Museum and the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations.

In their speeches, the Russian Ambassador, the Belarusian Ambassador and the Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture recalled the great losses of the Soviet Union in the brutal and bloody war. The sacrifices, patriotism and heroism of the Soviet army and people made for the great victory, contributing to bringing peace to the peoples of the world .

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Bedzetko stressed that June 22, 1941 holds a special place in the historical memory of citizens of Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union. On this day, the Great Patriotic War began and it was also one of the saddest days in the history of the Soviet people.

In the former Soviet space, there was hardly a family that was not affected by the flames of war, with tens of millions of lives lost, many cities and villages destroyed and many destinies devastated.

Ambassador Bezdetko said that decades have passed, but in people's hearts, the memories of the heroism of soldiers, the selfless work of those in the rear, the children who replaced adults in factories and enterprises during the war, as well as all those who contributed to the Great Victory of the Patriotic War but did not witness May 9, 1945 with their own eyes, are still sacred.

Ambassador Bedzetko also paid tribute to the sacrifices of Vietnamese international soldiers who fought side by side with Soviet citizens in the ranks of the Red Army.

In his speech, Ambassador Uladzimir Baravikou emphasized that for Belarus, June 22 is a special day – the National Day of Remembrance of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the victims of the Nazi genocide against the Belarusian people.

The Republic of Belarus was the first to feel the terrible blow of Hitler's war machine and suffered enormous losses. One third of the population of the Republic of Belarus at that time was killed. Many cities and villages were left in ruins.

Ambassador Uladzimir Baravikou affirmed that the heroism and selfless sacrifice of the defenders of the Brest Fortress, the fighting of the Belarusian partisans and underground fighters, the victims of the Khatyn tragedy and in other burned-down villages, will never be forgotten.

On this occasion, Ambassador Uladzimir Baravikou introduced a documentary about the atrocities that the Nazis and their accomplices committed against Belarusians, Russians and many other peoples of the former Soviet Union.

According to the Ambassador, these documents help viewers understand to some extent the suffering and hardships they had to go through; thereby, deeply grateful for “their unparalleled feats and preserving the memory of each of them, who gave the most precious thing - life, so that future generations can live in a peaceful and safe country”.

According to historians, more than 70% of the total losses of the Allies against Hitler's fascism were borne by the Soviet people. Behind the dry numbers are the fate, life, dreams and hopes of people who devoted everything for the future of their children, for the freedom of the country.

Program attendees observed a minute of silence and laid symbolic flowers in memory of those who fell in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The Aries Band performed two famous songs about the Soviet Patriotic War, Nightingale and Cranes .

The final part of the ceremony was the screening of the films Death Camps and Burned Villages by Belarusfilm, which preserve the historical memory and truth about the Nazi genocide against the people of Belarus and other peoples of the former Soviet Union, during the occupation of Belarus.
