Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai was born in 1969, has a bachelor's degree in Military , and is from Hung Yen province. He is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee and a delegate to the 14th National Assembly.

He has held the following positions: Commander of Phu Tho Provincial Military Command, Deputy Commander of Military Region 2, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Military Region 2, Commander of Hanoi Capital Command.

Thus, the Ministry of National Defense currently has 7 Deputy Ministers: General Nguyen Tan Cuong, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Senior Lieutenant General Vo Minh Luong, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Senior Lieutenant General Le Huy Vinh, Senior Lieutenant General Vu Hai San, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam and Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai.

Previously, on April 24, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh transferred and appointed Major General Truong Manh Dung, Commander of the 12th Corps, as Commander of Military Region 1.
