On the morning of July 22, speaking with Dan Tri reporter, Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Thang - Head of Training Department, University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University - said that the school uses a combination formula to determine admission scores. In which, the high school graduation exam score accounts for 20%. The school does not convert between combinations.
Thus, the school's score conversion formula remains the same as previously announced.
In 2025, the University of Science and Technology will use a comprehensive admission method to consider 95-99% of the total target; direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training will consider 1-5% of the total target.
For the comprehensive admission method, the minimum score for receiving applications is 50 (on a scale of 100).
The scoring formula is as follows: Admission score = Academic score + Priority score (100-point scale)
Formula for calculating academic score
Academic scores are calculated on a 100-point scale, rounded to 0.01 for each component and rounded to 0.01 for the total score.
Academic score = Ability score x 70% + Converted high school graduation score x 20% + Converted high school study score x 10%
Subject 1: Candidates with the results of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Exam
Competency score = Competency assessment score with math coefficient x 2/15 (1,500-point scale converted to 100-point scale).
Converted high school graduation score = Total score of 3 high school graduation exam subjects in the combination /3 x 10.
Converted high school grades = Average of grade 10, 11, 12 grades of subjects in the group x 10.
In case a candidate in grade 10 lacks 1 subject in the admission combination, and changes subjects from grade 11, the candidate will only have 8 score columns compared to a normal candidate (with 9 score columns).
Subject 2: Candidates without the results of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Exam
Competency score = Converted high school graduation score x 0.75.
Subject 3: Candidates graduating from foreign high schools
Competency score = Converted high school score.
High school graduation scores converted for candidates from countries with graduation exams, convert candidates' exam scores to a 100-point scale.
Candidates from countries without high school graduation exams: Converted high school graduation score = Converted high school study score.
Converted high school grades = Average of grade 10, 11, 12 grades of subjects in the group, converted to a 100-point scale.
The candidate's high school graduation exam year must not be more than 2 years from the year of admission. In case the candidate lacks subjects in the admission combination, the candidate will have fewer score columns than a normal candidate (with 9 score columns).
Subject 4: Candidates using international admission certificates
Competency score = International admission certificate score.
Converted high school graduation score = Total score of 3 high school graduation exam subjects in the combination /3 x 10.
Converted high school grades = Average of grade 10, 11, 12 grades of subjects in the group x 10.
International admission certificate scores are as follows:

Subject 5: Candidates entering the Australia/USA/New Zealand International Transfer Program.
Competency score = Interview score x 0.5 + Essay score x 0.3 + Converted English certificate score x 0.2.
Converted high school graduation score = Total score of 3 high school graduation exam subjects in the combination /3 x 10.
Converted high school grades = average of grade 10, 11, 12 grades of subjects in the group x 10.
Priority points
The school stipulates that candidates with academic scores < 75 points will have priority points equal to converted priority points.
Candidates with academic scores ≥ 75 points, the calculation formula is now:
Priority points = (100 - [Academic score])/25 x [Converted priority points], rounded to 0.01
In which, priority points are converted as follows:
Priority points converted = [Achievement priority points] + [Region target area priority points].
Priority points for achievements (other achievements, literature, sports, arts, social activities) are a maximum of 10 points. Priority points for target areas are a maximum of 9.17 points, on a scale of 100 (converted from a maximum of 2.75 points, on a scale of 30 according to the Ministry's regulations). The total converted priority points when exceeding 10 will be taken as 10.
English certificate conversion
Polytechnic University applies the conversion of international English certificates to English subject scores in regular university admissions.
Candidates with IELTS certificate ≥ 5.0 or TOEFL iBT ≥ 46 or TOEIC listening - reading ≥ 460 & speaking - writing ≥ 200 will be converted to the corresponding score of English subject in high school graduation exam score and high school academic performance for admission combinations using English subject.
The specific conversion table is as follows:
