On April 4, 1949, in Bo Ra village, Tan Thai commune, an area belonging to the Central Safe Zone (ATK) during the resistance war, Dai Tu district (Thai Nguyen), Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School was established under the direction of President Ho Chi Minh - who directly named it and assigned the task to the Viet Minh General Department to organize and implement it. This was the first and only journalism training facility during the resistance war against French colonialism.

Under the gentle sunshine of the first day of summer, our group's stop was the Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School Historical Site. In 2019, this place was recognized as a National Historical Site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In January 2024, the Vietnam Journalists Association, in coordination with the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Committee and relevant agencies, started the project to restore and embellish the site. After more than half a year of construction, on August 9, 2024, Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School was officially inaugurated with a new, solemn appearance while still maintaining its historical value.

The school was directed by journalist Do Duc Duc; the lecturers were famous political activists, journalists, and artists such as Truong Chinh, Vo Nguyen Giap, Hoang Quoc Viet, Nguyen Dinh Thi, Nam Cao, etc. President Ho Chi Minh paid special attention and sent two letters of encouragement and guidance on revolutionary journalism to the students. He advised: “This is the first journalism class, I hope you all will compete to study and practice to be worthy pioneers on the journalism front. The press must also carry out the slogan: All for victory”.

42 students after graduating from the first course in the history of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism and the only one in the resistance war against French colonialism returned to work at press and propaganda agencies, becoming key writers, making many contributions to the cause of resistance war and national construction and building the country's journalism.

Although it has not existed for a long time, the training method at Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School has demonstrated a strategic vision. Combining theory with practice, encouraging students to write articles and publish newspapers right in class is a progressive pedagogical approach. Uncle Ho's teachings on self-study, learning from reality, and practicing a sharp pen still hold true value for journalists today.

Journalist Phan Huu Minh, advisor to the Vietnam Press Museum, shared: “This is a school that preserves historical values and missions, and so that generations of Vietnamese journalists, each time they come here, will feel the value of Vietnam’s revolutionary press, and see that journalism always requires learning while doing. This national historical relic will be invaluable traditional educational materials about patriotism and the glorious tradition of Vietnam’s revolutionary press.”

Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School has trained core cadres, the nucleus of revolutionary journalism. From the school in the middle of the Viet Bac mountains, the students - the first "red seeds" - have spread out in all directions, present in fierce battlefields, the hottest fronts in the two resistance wars against France and America, reflecting truthfully and promptly the life of fighting, building and defending the Fatherland.

Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School is not only a historical memory but also a spiritual support for today's journalism. When thinking about Huynh Thuc Khang Journalism School, we cannot help but think of the role of journalism in modern society. The basic principles such as truthfulness, objectivity, and the spirit of serving the People that this school founded are still the guiding principles for true journalists today. The sacrifices and dedication of the previous generation of journalists are a great source of motivation for current journalists to continue the tradition and contribute to the development of the country.
