Secondary school in Nghe An directly admits 35 students to grade 6 with IELTS 5.0

On the morning of June 17, a representative of Dang Thai Mai Secondary School ( Nghe An ) confirmed that the image of the direct admission results of 35 students entering grade 6 of the school this year is real. However, "not all 35 students achieved IELTS 5.0 or higher", the representative said and informed that, in addition to the international language certificate IELTS, candidates participated in the admission with many other certificates such as TOEFL, PET, FCE, KET - these certificates all meet the regulations according to the Ministry of Education and Training .

To ensure fairness in the admission process, the school converted all of the above certificates according to the IELTS scale. After conversion, 3 candidates achieved IELTS scores of 6.5 or higher, the rest achieved 4.5 or higher.

According to the enrollment plan, these 35 students who passed the direct admission will study in the same class.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Dang Thai Mai Secondary School will enroll 300 students in grade 6. The school organizes enrollment in two ways: Admission combined with capacity assessment.

In particular, the school directly admits 1 class (35 students) of English according to the international English proficiency certificate. Candidates who want to be admitted to this class must ensure the condition of 5 years of primary school, completing excellent learning and training contents; have one of the international English certificates (IELTS from 4.0 or higher or other international English certificates converted equivalent to IELTS English certificate from 4.0 or higher such as TOEIC (scoring from 450 points); TOEFL ITP (scoring from 450 points), TOEFL iBT (scoring from 31 points), TOEFL Primary (scoring from 113 points)...

The school conducts admission based on international language certificates from high to low and considers additional criteria such as total scores of Vietnamese and Math exams at the end of grade 5.

As a result, Dang Thai Mai Secondary School has directly admitted 35 students with international English proficiency certificates from IELTS 5.0 and above. In addition to the 35 students admitted by direct admission, there are about 80 other students who also meet the requirements of English proficiency converted to IELTS certificates from 4.0 and above, English proficiency A2... are given priority for admission to grade 6 in the school.

The results of the direct admission to grade 6 based on the international English proficiency certificate of Dang Thai Mai Secondary School (Vinh City, Nghe An) made many people express their admiration for the outstanding English proficiency of the students, especially in Vinh City (Nghe An), which is not yet a majoreducational center like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Da Nang.

However, there are also many opinions expressing concern and worry about the race to send children to study for international foreign language certificates from a very early age.
