The August Revolution was gloriously victorious. On September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. A new and glorious page of history opened for the Vietnamese nation. Our people, from slavery, became free people, gradually becoming masters of the country and advancing towards socialism.
Historical and contemporary significance
President Ho Chi Minh affirmed the significance of the August Revolution: “Not only the working class and other oppressed peoples can be proud that: This is the first time in the history of revolution, a party only 15 years old has successfully led the revolution, has taken power nationwide…”.
Historical facts clearly prove that the success of the August Revolution in 1945 was the result of 15 years of steadfast, courageous, sacrificial, and arduous struggle of our people under the leadership of the Party, through three general rehearsals, namely the revolutionary climax of 1930-1931; the democratic and people's livelihood movement of 1936-1939; and the national liberation movement of 1939-1945.
The August Revolution succeeded quickly and spectacularly, first of all thanks to the correct, skillful and wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam , and was the result of the creative application of Marxism-Leninism in the specific conditions of our country. In particular, seizing the historical opportunity after the defeat of the fascists, our Party directed and organized the uprising to achieve complete victory throughout the country.
The success of the August Revolution was the premise for the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opening a new era: Independence, freedom and socialism. It was a historic turning point for the Vietnamese people. Our people broke the chains of colonial oppression for nearly a century, overthrew the thousand-year-old autocratic monarchy, and became the masters of an independent country. Our Party transformed from a secretive Party into a ruling Party.

The victory of the August Revolution was the victory of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought and the revolutionary line of the Communist Party of Vietnam, raising high the flag of national independence associated with socialism, combining national strength with the strength of the times. This was also the inevitable development process of the nation's history, the intellectual height of the nation, blending with the thoughts and trends of the times for peace, democracy and social progress.
The victory of the August Revolution affirmed that in the general trend of the proletarian revolution, a revolution led by a working class Party could not only succeed in a developed capitalist country, but could also succeed in a backward semi-feudal colonial country and move forward on the path of socialism. This was the development and creative application of Marxist-Leninist theory to the specific conditions of our country.
The profound epochal significance of the August Revolution of 1945 was that for the first time in modern history, a semi-feudal colonial country made a miraculous revolution, opening the way for the liberation of oppressed and enslaved peoples all over the world. Vietnam deserves to be the pioneer nation in the cause of national liberation, eliminating the colonial system of colonialism and imperialism.

Conclusions in building and protecting the Fatherland today
In the context of rapid and extremely complex changes in the country and the world today, our entire Party, people and army need to strive to successfully implement fundamental issues to promote the spirit of the August Revolution to new heights.
That is to constantly take care of building a clean and strong Party, constantly improving the fighting capacity, leadership level, and practical guidance of Party committees at all levels from the grassroots to the central level. Because all successes, victories, and developments of our country's revolution from the past, present, and future are closely linked to the leadership of the Party. Whenever and wherever this is not done well, then and there, all economic-social and national defense-security activities will encounter difficulties, shortages, and even hinder development.
An equally important issue is to resolutely and persistently maintain the socialist orientation. This stems from the Party's revolutionary goals and ideals, which have been enthusiastically supported and persistently implemented by the entire people over the past decades, since the success of the August Revolution. Today is the era of industrialization, modernization and deep global integration, and Vietnam is in the process of building a socialist-oriented market economy. This process, along with advantages, inevitably has challenges and difficulties that can easily derail the path to socialism.
Strengthening the great national unity bloc, promoting the intelligence and all resources of the country, and upholding the will of national self-reliance and self-improvement are also extremely important in the current period. Unite and join hands to successfully implement the strategic goals set by the Party: a rich people, a strong country, democracy, equality, civilization; build our country to be more dignified and beautiful as President Ho Chi Minh always wished for during his lifetime.
Successfully implementing the strategic guiding ideology on the tasks of foreign affairs as determined at the 13th National Party Congress is to create and maintain a peaceful and stable environment, mobilize external resources to develop the country, and enhance the country's position and prestige. These tasks are closely related to each other, in which maintaining peace and stability is an important and regular task; serving the country's development is the central task; enhancing the country's position and prestige is an important task.
Our Party has been, is, and will continue to resolutely fight against corruption, and fight uncompromisingly against all extremely vicious and cunning plots of hostile forces against our country's revolution. Building an increasingly clean and strong socialist rule-of-law state, promoting rapid and sustainable socio-economic development, maintaining social order, security, and safety. More than ever, every citizen of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam needs to be of one mind, join forces, and unite closely with the Communist Party of Vietnam to build our country to be increasingly rich and strong, standing shoulder to shoulder with the great powers in the modern world.
