The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just issued Circular 50 regulating the roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels in Vietnam. From June 1, 2026, unleaded gasoline (according to current national technical regulations) must be blended and prepared into E10 gasoline (mixing 10% ethanol into unleaded gasoline) for use in gasoline engines nationwide.
At the same time, the blending and mixing of E5 RON 92 gasoline (mixing 5% ethanol into RON 92 gasoline) for use in gasoline engines will be implemented until the end of December 2030. Thus, the roadmap for applying E10 gasoline is 6 months later than the plan that the Ministry of Industry and Trade had proposed in the draft circular.
The Minister of Industry and Trade will review and adjust the biofuel blending ratio or add appropriate mineral gasoline products from time to time. This is to ensure energy security, the environment and consumer rights.
In addition, B5 and B10 biodiesel are not required to be blended for use in diesel engines. The Ministry of Industry and Trade encourages organizations and individuals to participate in the production and trading of these biodiesel products.

Previously, from August 1, the two largest petroleum enterprises in the country, Vietnam National Petroleum Group ( Petrolimex ) and Vietnam Oil Corporation (PV Oil), piloted the sale of E10 gasoline in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Hai Phong.
However, some consumers are still cautious about E10 biofuel, especially old car models. However, Dr. Dao Duy Anh - Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that through discussions with units in the US, car models manufactured from 2000 to now have used E15 gasoline, and since 1980, Americans have used E10 gasoline.
"That shows that the impact of this type of gasoline on old cars is probably insignificant. However, to have an accurate assessment, in the coming time, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will coordinate with associations and related units to conduct tests on old car models to clearly determine the impact of E10 gasoline on the engine," he said.
Sharing at the seminar on biofuel development in August, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Huu Tuyen - Director of the Center for Research on Power Sources and Self-Propelled Vehicles (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) - said that the test results showed that the efficiency of using E10 gasoline on cars and motorbikes is generally equivalent, even improved compared to mineral gasoline in terms of capacity and consumption.
"From our research and research around the world, it shows that E10 gasoline is suitable for most vehicles in circulation, but may have certain effects on older generation vehicles using carburetors," he said.
