At the conference, experts made many contributions to the 2026 Admissions and Career Counseling Program, many of which said that career counseling for students would be more meaningful if they were counseled early. Because according to the 2018 general education program, when entering grade 10, students must choose a subject group according to their career orientation.

Need early career guidance

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dao Tung - Director of the Academy of Finance - said that it is necessary to clearly define "enrollment - career guidance" or "career guidance - enrollment". According to him, it is necessary to clearly divide into two paths: career guidance first and enrollment later. Mr. Tung hopes that programs and festivals pay more attention to reaching students in disadvantaged areas with a lack of information.

Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son - Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University) - said that the enrollment work at schools will be very difficult without careful preparation, especially career guidance and enrollment work.

If the admission and career counseling is not good, both students and training institutions will be "congested". Mr. Son believes that in order to increase the career guidance goals for students, admission and career counseling programs/fairs should have a separate career guidance area for students in grades 10 and 11, not just grade 12. From these opportunities, students in need of direct counseling will have the right choice for their future.

Mr. Cu Xuan Tien - Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) - said that counseling must guide candidates to pursue the right career in the future. According to him, in the counseling process, there are many cases where parents and candidates want to enter the school "regardless", causing a waste of time, effort and money.

Strengthening communication about the industry's "thirst" for human resources

At the conference, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) - said that the Government has many investment policies for training orders. These include scholarship policies for talented groups and science and technology sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, STEM.

According to Mr. Thao, regarding the adjustments in the 2026 admission regulations, the Ministry is currently listening to opinions from experts and universities on whether or not to use the admission method based on academic records and how to adjust the regulations to make it reasonable if this admission method continues to be used. "All adjustments are aimed at ensuring better rights and convenience for candidates," said Mr. Thao.

Dr. Pham Tan Ha, former Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM), said that social networks are currently the information channel that young people are most interested in. However, information on the internet is widespread, difficult to verify, and no one is responsible for this information.

According to him, the main job of the advisory board now is to advise on admissions, while career guidance is a long and difficult story. The current alpha generation has a lot of information and is good at technology, the advisory board needs to let candidates know which choice is right.

Focus more on candidates in remote areas
