Universities in the fields of Medicine and Pharmacy have begun to announce their enrollment plans for 2025 with many outstanding new features.
Increase quota, expand admission combination
Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine is the first Medical and Pharmaceutical University to announce enrollment targets and methods for the 2025 regular program. Accordingly, the school plans to increase enrollment targets for some majors compared to 2024: Traditional Medicine by 20%; Nursing by 10%; Pharmacy by 30%. The remaining majors will not increase enrollment targets.
Regarding admission methods, in 2025, the school plans to implement 6 admission methods, an increase of 3 methods compared to 2024, which are using high school graduation exam results; direct admission according to regulations; using the results of competency assessment tests and thinking assessments organized by other units for admission; using only international certificates for admission; combining high school graduation exam results with international certificates for admission; using other methods.
A new point in the 2025 admission season is that the school does not apply Foreign Language as a secondary criterion when considering equal scores as in previous years. The admission combinations based on the 2025 high school graduation exam scores are kept the same by the school, including B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology), A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry), B03 (Math, Biology, Literature).
Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy announced that it will maintain the same admission methods as in 2024 and consider expanding the methods in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training as well as social needs. Regarding admission combinations, in addition to the combinations of 2024, the school will expand some more combinations for all training majors. At the same time, it will use English and subjects in the Natural Sciences group (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) to include in the admission combinations of some majors. Regarding enrollment quotas, the school will keep the same quotas as in previous years to ensure and improve training quality.
The University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) plans to apply an additional admission method for students who already have a university degree to apply for admission to the Medicine and Pharmacy majors. For these students, the Medicine major will take 4 years of study and the Pharmacy major will take 3 years.
Note on admission plan, benchmarks and adjustments
Compared to previous years, this year the Ministry of Education and Training plans to adjust the regulations on the threshold for ensuring the quality of input for majors in the health sector that issue practice certificates. Specifically, according to the Draft Circular amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Regulations on university and college admissions for preschool education, candidates applying for admission to the majors of Medicine and Pharmacy must have academic results in all three years of high school from good or higher, or a graduation score of 8 or higher. For some majors of Nursing, Preventive Medicine, Midwifery, Dental Prosthetics, Medical Testing, Medical Imaging, Rehabilitation, Music Pedagogy, Fine Arts Pedagogy, and Physical Education, the entry threshold is applied at a lower floor level. High school academic performance must be good (Good level) or the average score of high school cultural subjects must be 6.5 or higher. Graduated from high school with good grades, or have average high school grades (Passed level) and have 5 years of work experience in the field of study. Graduated from intermediate level, college level, university level with good grades or higher.
For many years, the benchmark scores of Medical and Pharmaceutical Universities across the country have remained at the top, especially in the fields of Medicine and Dentistry. In 2024, the benchmark score for Medicine at Hanoi Medical University was the highest at 28.27 points, followed by Dentistry at 27.67 points. At Hanoi Medical and Pharmaceutical University (Hanoi National University), the benchmark scores for these two fields were 27.15 and 27 points, respectively. In particular, the Ministry of Health has recently proposed to the Government to direct research so that Medical and Pharmaceutical students will receive State support for tuition fees equal to the fees collected by the training institution, and will be provided with living expenses during their studies.
Experts predict that the benchmark scores for the Medical and Pharmaceutical majors will increase even more. Candidates who wish to apply for admission to the health sector should pay attention to the enrollment plan as well as the benchmark scores of previous years as a basis for their application and make efforts to review to achieve the best results.
