Nguyen Van Hau was born in An Giang , in a Confucian family, and was educated in Vietnamese, French, and Chinese. In 1952, he began teaching and writing for many newspapers in Saigon on the topics of research, literature, local history, and writing books. During this period, he was also the editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Torch of Compassion .
