The rate of passengers using VneID to check in for flights is increasing.

Passengers have begun to get acquainted with and use biometrics at touch points (check-in counters, security gates, departure gates) to check in for flights at airports.

Airports have been implementing the use of VneID biometrics or self-service kiosks to facilitate passengers to check in for flights according to the Prime Minister 's instructions: From December 1, check-in procedures will only be carried out at the counter for passengers with checked baggage and special passengers.

Customers get acquainted and use at touch points

With the goal of gradually building a smart aviation ecosystem, passengers can complete flight procedures with just one face scan without having to present physical documents such as ID or boarding pass, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and related units have closely coordinated to ensure infrastructure, equipment, operations procedures and passenger guidance are implemented synchronously.

Airports under ACV have implemented many tasks such as: Hanging propaganda banners with illustrative images; showing video clips instructing passengers on how to use VNeID at passenger terminals; setting up separate aisles for passengers using biometrics at check-in counters, security checkpoints and boarding gates; establishing a specialized biometric support team, ensuring technical support and guidance for passengers at check-in points, especially during peak hours; investing in visual infrastructure systems: signs, screens, and signs instructing passengers on how to use VNeID at all key areas in the terminals...

In addition, airports closely coordinate with provincial and municipal police and the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order (C06) to support passengers in registering, authenticating and upgrading their VNeID accounts to level 2 - a necessary condition to use biometric services.

Airports and airlines should step up communication at contact points, raise awareness and encourage passengers to proactively access new technology.

According to the data reported by ACV-affiliated airports, from August 1 to September 15, 2025, all methods of using electronic identification and control devices have seen better growth in terms of achievement rate. This shows that the level of implementation and passenger habits using the service have been significantly improved.

Specifically, the number of passengers checking in for flights via the VNeID application is growing rapidly, but the market share is still small. VNeID is just starting to become familiar to passengers, and there is still a lot of potential for expansion.

At the check-in counter with ACV-ID device, this is the touch point with the highest and most stable growth rate. This growth reflects the effectiveness when ACV deploys the device at the counter, passengers can easily access and receive direct support from airport staff.

Through security control, passengers have gradually become accustomed to using biometrics in security control, helping to shorten time and reduce congestion.

At the boarding gate, although the speed increased nearly 3 times compared to the original, this rate still did not reach the planned target, which shows that it is necessary to continue promoting propaganda, instructing passengers on how to use and expanding the infrastructure.

“After more than a month of official implementation at ACV airports, passengers have begun to get acquainted with and use biometrics at touchpoints (check-in counters, security gates, departure gates). The usage rate has shown an increasing trend, reflecting positive reception from passengers,” ACV leaders assessed.

Determination to transform aviation digitally

ACV also said that some key airports have achieved good and stable results, affirming the feasibility of the system such as: Tan Son Nhat, Cat Bi, Phu Bai, Chu Lai, Tuy Hoa, Buon Ma Thuot, Can Tho, Con Dao and Rach Gia have recorded positive results.

Phu Bai and Cat Bi International Airports have made significant improvements, especially in the first half of September, showing the potential for breakthroughs if they continue to receive support in terms of infrastructure and human resources. Some international airports such as Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Noi Bai have not yet met expectations, especially at the departure gates, where passengers tend to choose the traditional route.

Admitting that during the recent implementation period, there were errors resulting in slow or unsuccessful results at automatic security gates at some airports, ACV leaders pointed out that the cause in some cases was due to errors in the ACV biometric system, and in many cases, it was due to airlines returning data late, so ACV is working with airlines to fix this error.

In addition, ACV is still maintaining a biometric error reporting group and a 24/7 technical hotline to monitor and supervise existing errors including: causes, solutions, time to fix and status of fixes.

“The application of biometric technology in the check-in process for air passengers is not only a technological step forward, but also a clear demonstration of the determination to comprehensively digitalize the Vietnamese aviation industry in general and ACV in particular to bring the best experience to passengers and improve operational efficiency according to international standards,” ACV leaders emphasized./.
