• Ca Mau signed a cooperation agreement to expand the super-intensive shrimp farming model.
  • Farmers start rice crop on shrimp farming land
  • Record of raising large shrimp, profit of billions

Attending the forum were Ms. Huynh Kim Dinh, Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Extension Center; Mr. Tiet Tien Dung, Director of the Agricultural Extension Center of Ca Mau province, and more than 200 delegates representing businesses, community agricultural extension groups, typical farmers and Grobest Vietnam Co., Ltd. from Ca Mau, An Giang , Vinh Long provinces and Can Tho city.

Forum view.

In the context of natural disasters, drought and climate change increasingly seriously affecting the lives and agricultural production, the Vietnam Agricultural Extension System continues to affirm its role as a "trusted companion of farmers", bringing scientific and technical advances to each region, helping farmers adapt flexibly and develop sustainably.

Mr. Dang Xuan Truong, Head of Fisheries Extension Department, National Agricultural Extension Center, spoke at the forum.

At the forum, delegates discussed and shared many practical issues in brackish water shrimp production, especially diseases, market fluctuations and input costs. At the same time, many models applying technical advances to adapt to climate change were introduced, bringing about clear results, such as: Shrimp farming model adapting to drought - salinity, saltwater intrusion; shrimp - rice model and mangrove ecological shrimp, bringing high economic efficiency, reducing environmental risks; producing safe biological seeds, proactively using domestic parent shrimp sources (in 2024, about 187.8 thousand shrimp will be provided), reducing import dependence; applying water-saving technology, controlling temperature and pond environment (tarpaulin-lined ponds, cement tanks, net houses), aiming for safe, antibiotic-free production.

Ms. Chau Thi Tuyet Hanh, representative of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance, discussed at the forum.

Ms. Chau Thi Tuyet Hanh, representative of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control of Ca Mau, said: “In recent years, climate change has caused many difficulties for brackish water shrimp farming. In addition, the cost of feed and seeds in the country is still high compared to foreign markets. Therefore, proactively sourcing parent shrimp, producing biosafe seeds and reducing input costs are key factors to help increase the competitiveness of the Vietnamese shrimp industry.”

Also at the forum, models of sustainable water and pond management, seed quality control, aquatic disease prevention, and production-consumption linkage were shared as feasible solutions to help farmers stabilize output, increase product value, and protect the ecological environment in the long term.

The forum is an opportunity for professional agencies, businesses and farmers to exchange experiences, connect technical solutions and markets, and work towards the goal of developing the brackish water shrimp industry in the Mekong Delta in a sustainable direction, effectively adapting to climate change.
