Tornado at night caused nearly 1 billion VND in damage in Ca Mau

On the morning of October 29, news from the People's Committee of Thanh Tung commune, Ca Mau province said that a strong tornado had just occurred in the commune, causing great damage to the lives and economy of more than a dozen households in the area.

Accordingly, the tornado, which occurred at approximately 9 PM on October 28th in Thanh Tung hamlet, Thanh Tung commune, affected 13 households. Specifically, the tornado completely destroyed 2 houses, 5 industrial shrimp farming sheds, ripped off the roofs of 15 houses, and affected 7 industrial shrimp ponds belonging to local residents.

Fortunately, the tornado caused no casualties, and the total estimated damage is approximately 910 million VND.

Immediately after the incident occurred, the People's Committee of Thanh Tung commune directed relevant agencies to quickly record the scene, assist in cleanup, and ensure the safety of the power grid and traffic for the surrounding residents.

In recent days, Ca Mau province has experienced continuous heavy rains, combined with high tides, causing flooding, landslides, and subsidence in many areas.

According to the Ca Mau Provincial Irrigation Department, storms towards the end of the year tend to shift southward. Currently, water levels in the Mekong Delta provinces are rising. To proactively protect production and public works, the province has implemented many solutions, both structural and non-structural, to increase its capacity to respond to tidal surges and riverbank and coastal erosion.

According to forecasts from specialized agencies in Ca Mau province, during the 2025 rainy season, high tides are expected to occur in unusually high bursts around the end of August, September, and October according to the lunar calendar. This poses a significant risk to agricultural production and the lives of the people.

Given the above situation, the Ca Mau Provincial Irrigation Sub-Department recommends that local authorities at all levels proactively call on farmers to protect their production by reinforcing and improving dikes, pumping water when possible, building temporary pumping stations, and combining them with the existing irrigation system to regulate water during high tides, thereby protecting production. This will help people proactively and effectively respond to the unpredictable developments caused by natural disasters.
