Tornado at night caused nearly 1 billion VND in damage in Ca Mau

On the morning of October 29, news from the People's Committee of Thanh Tung commune, Ca Mau province said that a strong tornado had just occurred in the commune, causing great damage to the lives and economy of more than a dozen households in the area.

Accordingly, the tornado occurred at around 9 p.m. on October 28 in Thanh Tung Hamlet, Thanh Tung Commune, affecting 13 households. Specifically, the tornado completely collapsed 2 houses, 5 industrial shrimp farming huts, blew off the roofs of 15 houses and affected 7 industrial shrimp farming ponds of the people.

Fortunately, the tornado did not cause any casualties. The total damage caused by the tornado is estimated at about 910 million VND.

Immediately after the incident, Thanh Tung Commune People's Committee directed relevant agencies to quickly record the scene, support cleanup, ensure safety of the power grid and traffic for surrounding people.

In recent days, the weather in Ca Mau province has continuously seen heavy rains, combined with high tides, causing many areas to be flooded, eroded and subsided.

According to the Department of Irrigation of Ca Mau province, storms at the end of the year tend to move south. Currently, water levels in the provinces in the Mekong Delta are rising. In order to proactively protect production, public works... in recent times, the province has deployed many solutions, from construction to non-construction, to increase the ability to respond to high tides, landslides along rivers and coasts...

According to the forecast of the professional agency of Ca Mau province, in the rainy and stormy season of 2025, high tides tend to appear in many unusually high periods around the end of August, September and October of the lunar calendar. This poses a great risk of affecting agricultural production and people's lives.

Faced with the above situation, the Department of Irrigation of Ca Mau province recommends that local authorities at all levels proactively call on farmers to protect production by reinforcing and renovating dykes, pumping when possible, building field pumping stations, combining with the existing irrigation system to regulate water when there is high tide, protecting production... helping people to proactively respond promptly and effectively to unpredictable developments caused by natural disasters.
