• Farmers are delighted with the low-emission rice farming model.
  • Farmers respond to low-emission rice production

On December 11th, the Ca Mau Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, in coordination with the U Minh Commune People's Committee, organized a workshop to summarize the model.

The Ca Mau Provincial Agricultural Extension Center reports on the results of implementing the model.

The model project in Hamlet 8, U Minh commune, covers an area of 50 hectares, involves 50 households, and will be implemented from June to December 2025.

During the cultivation process, farmers reduced the amount of seeds sown from 120 kg to 100 kg/ha; reduced nitrogen fertilizer by 30 kg; drained water 1-2 times/season; reduced pesticide spraying by 2 times; and collected straw from the fields…

Thanks to adherence to high-quality, low-emission rice production processes, yields reached 5-5.5 tons/ha, approximately 1 ton/ha higher than the control plots; profits increased by an additional 10.6 million VND/ha.

Besides its economic benefits, the project also contributes to changing farmers' farming practices, reducing the use of agricultural inputs, protecting the environment, and adapting to climate change.

After the pilot project was completed, the area of application in the region was expanded to 75 hectares.

At the workshop, farmers highly appreciated the effectiveness and wide applicability of the new farming process, and shared many practical experiences gained from participating in the model.

Mr. Tiet Tien Dung, Director of the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, suggested that localities continue to coordinate in disseminating information and guiding farmers to replicate the model in the coming years, while maintaining close links between farmers, cooperatives, and businesses to enhance the value of rice-shrimp production.
