Agriculture affirms its pivotal role

In the period of 2020-2025, Ca Mau has achieved many impressive results in economic development, with an average GRDP growth rate of more than 7%/year, and a positive economic structure shift. In particular, agriculture continues to play a pivotal role, making an important contribution to overall growth and improving the lives of rural people. These achievements are a testament to the spirit of innovation, creativity, daring to think and dare to do of Ca Mau farmers.

Mr. Ha Viet Thang's horse crab farming model brings high income.

In the province, many farmers have boldly applied scientific and technical advances and improved production models to increase economic efficiency. One typical example is the horseshoe crab farming model of Mr. Ha Viet Thang in Thuan Loi B hamlet (Tan Thuan commune). He currently raises about 500 horseshoe crabs, each weighing 4-6 kg, and sells them to the market for 300-350 thousand VND/kg. After deducting expenses, the profit is about 350-400 million VND/year.

Mr. Thang shared: “Dinged crabs are very suitable for the local natural conditions, have few diseases, and have stable output. I always learn new techniques and follow the right care process to improve farming efficiency.”

In Don Dong hamlet (Tran Van Thoi commune), Mr. Tran Ut Nam developed a model of growing Queen pear guava with 350 trees on an area of 4 hectares of land, bringing in an income of about 400 million VND/year, of which guava trees alone account for more than 100 million VND. "Queen pear guava has a sweet, crunchy taste, is easy to consume, so it provides a stable source of income," said Mr. Nam.

In addition to livestock and fruit tree models, many farmers are also pioneers in applying technology in growing vegetables, opening up a new direction for digital agriculture. A typical example is Mr. Nguyen Trong Phoi (Don Dong hamlet) who grows vegetables on an area of 3,000 m² with varieties such as cinnamon, coriander, celery... For about a year now, he has installed an automatic watering system controlled via a smartphone application, helping to save time, costs and increase productivity. Thanks to that, his family's average income is about 150 million VND/year.

Mr. Phoi shared: “Digital transformation in agriculture is an inevitable trend. Applying technology helps me save time and effort while the efficiency is clearly higher.”

These models not only help people increase their income but also concretize the goal that the Ca Mau Provincial Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term has identified: "Promoting the application of science, technology and digital transformation, creating a breakthrough in productivity, quality, efficiency, added value and competitiveness of the economy".

Promoting the development of "Agriculture, Rural Development"

Not stopping at the achieved results, Ca Mau continues to synchronously deploy many solutions to develop ecological agriculture, modern countryside, and civilized farmers in the period 2025-2030. The province focuses on applying science and technology, promoting digital transformation, developing green economy, circular economy, towards sustainable agricultural development.

Rural people take advantage of vacant land around their houses to grow vegetables, increasing their stable income.

At the same time, the province focuses on developing rural human resources, creating conditions for farmers to access training programs, technology transfer, and application of information technology in production and business. In particular, the province strengthens the connection between "4 houses" (State - scientists - enterprises - farmers) to form a closed value chain, ensuring stable output, enhancing the value and competitiveness of local agricultural products.

From the effective models and the proactive application of technology, it can be seen that Ca Mau farmers today are not only owners of fields and gardens but also the subjects of the rural economic development process. They are realizing the aspiration to get rich legitimately with their will, determination and the spirit of daring to think and dare to do, contributing to bringing the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress into life.
