Appearing at Love Station with colorful paper cranes, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung revealed that paper cranes are symbols of luck, optimism and hope. When holding paper cranes in her hands, she always thinks of the good things in life. That is also the reason Ms. Nhung loves these cranes and named her volunteer group.
The owner of the volunteer group "Paper Cranes" tells about her journey of overcoming difficulties in the program Love Station broadcast at 10:00 on October 28 on VTV1 channel.
Born into a farming family, due to the effects of Agent Orange from her father, at the age of 3, little Nhung still could not crawl or walk. The family sought treatment everywhere, and wherever they heard of a cure, Nhung's father took her there. Only when the doctor concluded that there was no cure for this condition did the family give up hope. Her cruel fate forced her life to be tied to a wheelchair.
The father always feels guilty for making his daughter disabled for life, but the 8X girl always silently thanks her father for helping her to be born into this life. The letters written about her father not only helped Nguyen Thi Nhung win prizes in many writing contests but were also a way for her to send thanks to her beloved father. Therefore, Nguyen Thi Nhung always reminds herself to live a meaningful life. She always has optimistic thoughts because she believes that as long as she thinks positively, good things will come.
In 2009, Nguyen Thi Nhung was taken by a friend to a shelter in My Duc District (Hanoi) that takes care of orphaned and disabled children. Realizing that she was like them but was still lucky enough to be able to move around in a wheelchair, Nguyen Thi Nhung thought that she needed to do something for these unfortunate children.
Fate brought her to know Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quan, a teacher at Hop Thanh Secondary School (My Duc District, Hanoi ), who also has a disability in both legs. After many conversations, Ms. Nhung and her friend hatched the idea of establishing a volunteer group with the hope of bringing luck and sharing love to the unfortunate.
In 2015, Ms. Nhung's Paper Cranes volunteer group was born with the motto "Connecting hearts - sharing love". From two members, the volunteer group now has more than 20 official members and hundreds of collaborators who are teachers, students, civil servants, etc. Each person has a different situation and job, but they share a compassionate heart. The appearance of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quan in the program opened up many touching details about Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung on her journey of sharing love with people in unfortunate circumstances in the community.
"To maintain and develop the Paper Crane volunteer group from zero until now is not easy. Ms. Nhung and I had to work together many times to come up with a plan to maintain the group's activities for the longest time and most regularly. Although it was difficult to travel, there were times when Ms. Nhung got sick after volunteer trips, but she never complained or thought of giving up," Mr. Quan shared.
Sharing her plans for the future, the girl infected with Agent Orange always hopes that her volunteer group will grow stronger, helping more people in unfortunate circumstances, more orphans and more lonely elderly people.
