The nutrients in coriander seed water are not strong enough to create the skin beautifying effect as spread information - Photo: NDTV
Information about drinking coriander seed water to treat acne and brighten skin comes from an Instagram account named Shilpa Arora, who introduces herself as a nutritionist from India.
In the post, Ms. Arora shared a method of using coriander seeds as a natural skin care method, attracting the attention and sharing of many users.
According to Ms. Arora's instructions, just soak coriander seeds overnight and drink the water early in the morning on an empty stomach, users are promised to see clear skin, reduced dark spots and brighter skin after just a few weeks.
However, a July 28 report by Indian health fact-checking platform THIP asserted that the claim was baseless and "mostly false."
According to THIP, coriander seeds contain antioxidants such as vitamin C, which help protect skin cells from the effects of sunlight and the environment. Some laboratory studies have shown that coriander leaves can help protect the skin against UV rays.
However, when you just soak the seeds and drink the water, most of the nutrients will be reduced during digestion and not strong enough to create a noticeable effect.
THIP believes that eating fresh fruit is a more effective way to supplement antioxidants for the skin than drinking coriander seed water.

Regarding the ability to fade dark spots, the THIP organization said that there is currently no specific scientific evidence showing that coriander seed water can reduce melasma or acne scars in a short time.
Some suggest that vitamins A and C in coriander seeds may help improve skin pigmentation, but to date no large-scale human studies have confirmed this effect.
Doctors recommend using sunscreen and products containing vitamin C or specialized acids to achieve more visible and lasting results.
With its acne-fighting properties, coriander seeds contain essential oils like linalool which have mild antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
However, experts like dermatologist Sandeep Arora and cosmetic medicine expert Ekansh Shekhar at Acadis Hospital, India, both confirm that using coriander seed water alone is not enough to treat acne because the main causes of acne are hormones, excess oil and bacteria.
Experts also added that to have healthy, bright skin, you need a comprehensive lifestyle, nutrition and skin care regimen, and cannot just rely on a natural drink.
