Culture, as the spiritual foundation of society and an important endogenous force ensuring the sustainable development of the country, has been receiving special attention from the Party, the State and the entire Vietnamese society. Looking back on the historical journey, especially after nearly 40 years of Renovation and 50 years of national reunification, the picture of Vietnamese culture emerges with bright, diverse and dynamic colors, affirming its stature and value in the global cultural flow.

At the 2021 National Cultural Conference, the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a profound speech, affirming: “Looking back at the achievements in the field of building and developing Vietnamese culture under the leadership of the Party, especially in the recent 35 years of renovation, we have the right to be proud of the great contributions of culture to the cause of national salvation and construction”. The late General Secretary also emphasized that the outstanding achievements include increasingly comprehensive and profound cultural awareness, increasingly diverse and rich cultural products, many traditional cultural values and cultural heritages are inherited, preserved and developed.

Appreciating the position and role of culture in the nation's history, Mr. Le Nhu Tien, former Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture andEducation , said that throughout history, culture has always held a particularly important position. The attention that the Party and State have paid to culture in recent years has been great, and people's expectations of culture are also very high.

Reality has proven those statements. The overall picture of Vietnamese culture today has new, diverse and dynamic nuances. Traditional folk cultural activities have been restored and widely organized, attracting the response of the majority of people. Cultural life in mountainous, island, remote and isolated areas has significantly improved. Currently, nearly 100% of communes in ethnic minority and mountainous areas have cultural houses or cultural post offices , and many villages and hamlets have community activity houses.

In the field of literature and art, creative activities have made new developments with the richness and diversity of cultural products. Many projects to collect, document and digitize cultural heritage have been implemented, helping to preserve and promote the ideological, academic and aesthetic values of the nation.

Vietnam's rich cultural heritage system, majestic and poetic landscapes are invaluable assets, with great potential to be transformed into unique products and services, contributing to economic and trade growth, as well as building the brand and position of Vietnamese culture in the international arena. According to data from the Department of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as of early 2025, Vietnam has about 40,000 relics and nearly 70,000 intangible cultural heritages inventoried nationwide.

Notably, 32 world heritages have been recognized by UNESCO, including 8 world cultural and natural heritages, 15 intangible cultural heritages and 9 documentary heritages under the Memory of the World Program. The State has also honored and had preferential policies for 131 "People's Artisans" and 1,619 "Excellent Artisans", contributing to motivating and encouraging artisans to continue to contribute and teach precious cultural values.

Cultural exchange activities have also been gradually expanded, associated with the process of multilateralization and diversification of international relations, contributing to bringing Vietnamese culture closer to friends around the world. These achievements are clear evidence of Vietnam's continuous investment and efforts in building an advanced culture, imbued with national identity, contributing to the country's sustainable development.

Rich in Tuyen culture

Implementing the Party and State's direction on cultural policies in Tuyen Quang province, culture has always received attention and investment. In the development process, Tuyen Quang province has always identified two "backbone" factors: promoting revolutionary traditions and preserving and promoting national cultural identity. The Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress, term 2020 - 2025, identifies that preserving and promoting national cultural identity is always a key task of all levels and sectors. Because preserving identity can preserve the national soul. Preserving identity can develop tourism into an important economic sector of the province.

Comrade Au Thi Mai, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that, recognizing the important role of culture in local socio-economic development, especially in the tourism sector, in recent years the province and the industry have focused on preserving and promoting national cultural identity, tangible and intangible cultural heritage values. Regarding tangible culture, the province has promoted the embellishment of relic sites and sites, strictly and harmoniously preserving and protecting national scenic spots.

For intangible cultural heritage, the province directed specialized agencies to prioritize inventory and establish scientific records for each object, and have solutions for preservation in the community. The industry considers national cultural identity as a potential and strength of Tuyen Quang. If preserved, promoted and exploited well, it will certainly be a great resource for the province's development.

The province has assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over, advise, coordinate and organize the implementation of cultural management, conservation and promotion of cultural values, heritages and relics. Specifically in the field of tangible culture, the province has well managed 658 historical, cultural and scenic relics, including 3 special national relics: Tan Trao Special National Historical Relic (Son Duong), Kim Binh Special National Historical Relic (Chiem Hoa), and Na Hang - Lam Binh Special National Scenic Relic. In addition, the province has thousands of valuable antiques and documents; including the national treasure Bao Ninh Sung Phuc Stele at Bao Ninh Sung Phuc Pagoda, Yen Nguyen (Chiem Hoa), dating from the Ly Dynasty.

In the field of intangible culture, the area has 425 heritages of ethnic groups, including 17 national intangible cultural heritages. Along with 11 Then provinces, Then Tuyen Quang is also in the Representative Cultural Heritage of Humanity that needs to be preserved and promoted.

In particular, Tuyen Quang has effectively preserved, restored and promoted the value of historical relics to serve tourism and revolutionary tradition education. Activities and programs on returning to the source, offering incense, reporting achievements, cultural and artistic exchanges, and experiences at historical relic sites in recent times have created a widespread and regular movement for organizations, agencies, units, localities in the province and people nationwide. Every year, the whole province welcomes over 2 to 3 million tourists, of which tourists returning to the source to visit historical revolutionary relics and returning to the source tourism account for nearly half. This shows that revolutionary historical tourism is the strength of Tuyen Quang.

Currently, the province has nearly 70 temples and pagodas that are not only famous for their sacredness, but also have a rich history, culture, beliefs, unique ancient architecture, with charming, pristine, mysterious landscapes. The whole province has over 40 unique traditional festivals associated with the spirituality and culture of ethnic groups. In recent years, the province has preserved, restored, and promoted a number of festivals such as: Long Tong Festival of the Tay people (Chiem Hoa, Na Hang, Lam Binh); Fire Jumping Festival of the Pa Then people (Lam Binh), Dao Do (Na Hang) ...

The diversity of ethnic groups living together has created a rich treasure of customs, practices, beliefs, musical instruments and folk remedies. Folk songs and dances such as Then, Coi, Quan lang, Pao dung, Sinh ca, Soong co have developed quite strongly. Tuyen Quang currently has 100% of communes, wards and towns with mass art troupes; over 2,600 mass art troupes in villages, hamlets, residential groups, agencies, units and schools; and over 200 folk song and cultural preservation clubs.

These achievements affirm that Tuyen Quang is not only a land rich in revolutionary traditions but also a colorful cultural center, constantly striving to preserve and promote priceless heritage values.

On the journey of national development, culture has always been the breath, the source flowing in the veins of every Vietnamese person. The brilliant achievements in the work of preserving and promoting heritage, from the national scale to the land of Tuyen Quang, are vivid proof of the deep and consistent concern of the Party and State. It is from that care and nurturing that culture has become a sustainable endogenous strength, shaping the unique national cultural identity, the pride of the Vietnamese people today.
