During the women's marathon at the 33rd SEA Games on the Happy & Healthy Bike Lane course, Hoang Thi Ngoc Hoa fainted and collapsed about 3km from the finish line, while racing in the top 3 with Bui Thi Thu Ha.
After arriving at the medical tent, Ngoc Hoa regained consciousness. However, she still needed further treatment, so she was taken to the hospital by car. Doctors from the Vietnamese sports delegation accompanied her.
Thanks to the doctors' care, Ngoc Hoa recovered and was discharged from the hospital at 10 PM the same day, after which she returned to the hotel where the athletics team was staying in Bangkok.
According to information from the team, Ngoc Hoa will rest and return home on December 17th, concluding her SEA Games 33 journey in Thailand.
Returning to the athletics events on December 14th, Nguyen Thanh Phuc was unable to complete the women's 20km race walk, while Thai Thi Kim Ngan finished fourth. Meanwhile, Nguyen Thanh Ngung, Thanh Phuc's younger brother, put in a valiant effort and won a bronze medal in the men's 20km race walk.
In the men's marathon, Hoang Nguyen Thanh finished fourth with a time of 2 hours and 38 minutes. On the women's side, Bui Thi Thu Ha won the bronze medal but also required medical attention after crossing the finish line.
