Coach Mai Duc Chung officially parted ways with the Vietnamese women's national team after his contract expired at the end of 2023. This afternoon (February 4th), the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) held a ceremony to pay tribute to the veteran coach. All VFF leaders were present at the farewell event, including President Tran Quoc Tuan and three Vice Presidents Tran Anh Tu, Nguyen Xuan Vu, and Nguyen Trung Kien.
On behalf of the VFF Executive Committee, Vice President Tran Anh Tu expressed his gratitude to Coach Mai Duc Chung. The VFF leadership emphasized the contributions of this coach, especially to the Vietnamese women's national team.

Coach Mai Duc Chung also expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the sports sector and the Vietnam Football Federation for their continued trust in him. The 72-year-old coach thanked the women's football centers, clubs, coaching staff, and his players for their unwavering support, and wished Vietnamese women's football continued success in the future.
Coach Mai Duc Chung first led the Vietnamese women's national team in 1996 and has overseen many periods. He led the team to six SEA Games gold medals – a record for women's football at the Games – the 2019 Southeast Asian Championship, and qualification for the 2023 World Cup.
Besides women's football, Coach Mai Duc Chung also had a brief stint coaching the Vietnamese national team and the U23 team (on an interim basis). He led Binh Duong FC to win the V.League and the National Cup in 2015, and helped Navibank Saigon FC win the National Cup in 2011.
Coach Mai Duc Chung expressed his desire to "retire" at the beginning of 2023. At that time, he decided to end his coaching career to rest after decades of continuous dedication to Vietnamese football as both a player and a coach.
In 2023, coach Mai Duc Chung led the Vietnamese women's national team to win the gold medal in women's football at the 32nd SEA Games and participate in the 2023 World Cup - the first time Vietnamese women's football has participated in the tournament. The 72-year-old coach's final tournament will be the qualifying round for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
