Why does Ho Chi Minh City University of Science use 17 admission combinations/majors?

Many industries use 17 admission combinations.

This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Sciences enrolls 32 regular undergraduate majors with a total of 4,455 students. Notably, the number of subject combinations for admission has increased sharply in many majors. From a maximum of 4 subject combinations per major last year, this year many majors use 10-17 different combinations.

Notably, the majors of environmental science, environmental resource management, and environmental engineering technology recruit 17 combinations.

Geology and land economics majors recruit 14 combinations; educational technology majors recruit 13 combinations. Materials science and materials technology majors also recruit 12 combinations.

Many majors use 10 admission combinations such as: physics, physics group, electronic physics and information technology, semiconductor technology, nuclear engineering, medical physics.

In addition, there are 3 majors that are admitted with 9 combinations such as: oceanography, chemistry, chemical engineering technology. The remaining majors also are admitted with 5-7 combinations.

This year the school also uses some new subjects in the combination such as: agricultural technology, literature, geography...

Expanding admission combinations to increase opportunities for qualified candidates

Speaking to Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, Master Hoang Thanh Tu, Deputy Head of the Information and Communication Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, said that the expansion of admission combinations is to respond to changes in the high school graduation exam regulations and university admission regulations in 2025, helping to increase flexibility and opportunities for candidates with suitable abilities, especially in highly interdisciplinary majors.

"These adjustments are based on the results of many years of enrollment data research, as well as the actual implementation of the 2018 General Education Program in high schools. In addition, the school also carefully considers and weighs the professional capacity of learners when using these subject combinations," added Master Tu.

In addition, some new subjects in the admission process that have not been used before will be considered this year in the admission process for new majors such as: agricultural technology, literature, geography, etc.

In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science will use 3 admission methods, including: direct admission and priority admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and Ho Chi Minh City National University, combining international language certificates (IELTS/TOEFL iBT) with high school academic results; admission based on high school graduation exam results; admission based on the results of the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Test.
