Sharing with VietNamNet reporter, Dr. Tran Nam Dung said that after graduating with a doctorate from Moscow State University in 1995, he returned to Vietnam and decided to work in Ho Chi Minh City but did not know where. During this time, he visited his hometown in Da Nang and received a letter from Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh. The letter arrived when he was away so his relatives read it first. "Everyone praised it as good, emotional and warm like brothers in a family," Dr. Dung shared.
Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh's letter contributed to deciding his 30-year path of working at Ho Chi Minh City University of Science (Ho Chi Minh City University of Science ) and Gifted High School.

Mr. Duong said if he is busy in the countryside, it can be delayed by 1 week. As for the program, he can refer to textbooks or specialized class teachers in Da Nang.
In addition, in September, I will be invited to work with the Math team (about 15 students). I will choose this part, if I find something interesting, I will teach it for about 3-4 sessions, then give them a test. Regarding Algebra, Mr. Hai said it is also convenient. The only thing is that the old head of the department is currently changing jobs, so we should wait until Mr. Hai officially becomes the head of the department to do the paperwork. “Reading the letter, I clearly saw Mr. Trinh's concern for me, very warm and friendly. I also saw that the management at the school was very comfortable, free, giving all power to the teachers. At that time, I really did not know that I would be in the specialized system for more than 30 years,” said Dr. Tran Nam Dung, adding that after 30 years of re-reading this letter, he was still moved because it decided "my whole path."
Because he is Le Ba Khanh Trinh
Dr. Tran Nam Dung and Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh were a "perfect pair" when they were at Moscow State University. Here, together with Professor Le Tu Quoc Thang and Dr. Nguyen Van Luong, they often cooked together, jokingly calling each other "Trinh's kitchen".
During the first time teaching at Ho Chi Minh City University, Dr. Dung did not have a salary, so wherever he went and whatever he had to do, Dr. Khanh Trinh took care of everything. It was not until November 1995 that Dr. Tran Nam Dung received his first month's salary and at that time, the brothers shared it with each other.
"At that time, his income was very high, but he lived simply and frugally. We were close but very different in personality. I was lively and noisy, while he was quiet and serious. I drank a lot, while he drank moderately, only socially. But when necessary, he drank heavily," said Dr. Dung.
He remembers that in 1999, when he got married, Dr. Trinh lent him 2 taels of gold to cover the wedding expenses. "As for Khanh Trinh's wedding, both my father and younger brother attended," Mr. Dung said, adding that Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh was not only a colleague to him but also a brother in his life and family.
In the early days of preparing entrance exam questions or team selection exam questions for the Gifted High School, he and his colleagues went to Dr. Trinh's house to work, stay, and sleep. There, everyone was provided with food and living facilities by Dr. Khanh Trinh's mother.
A few years ago, at the ceremony to receive the 30-year Party membership badge of Dr. Le Ba Khanh Trinh, Dr. Tran Nam Dung confided that Dr. Trinh was his brother, colleague, and closest comrade for nearly 30 years, since he started working at Ho Chi Minh City University of Science.
“Mr. Trinh was the one who took me to meet Mr. Bui Xuan Hai and Mr. Le Trung Hieu to apply for admission to the Mathematics department, Algebra department. After that, everything went smoothly, I joined the department but had almost no teaching hours. Mr. Trinh introduced me to Mr. Thai Minh Duong in the specialized department, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long in Bach Khoa, Mr. Tran Thanh in the exam preparation center. So I got a job."
According to him, Dr. Trinh is straightforward but very moderate. He gives advice gently but very firmly.
"I learned many things from him, especially a healthy and simple lifestyle. Mr. Trinh looks dignified but is very funny and humorous. He plays the guitar well, sings well, composes well and dances beautifully. Since 2007, when I embarked on building a math movement in the South, Mr. Trinh has supported me unconditionally. He arranged to participate in all the events I organized such as math meetings, winter school and math spring school if he was not busy, although everyone knows that it is very difficult to invite Mr. Trinh to teach. Later, he spent a lot of time with his family and two children," Dr. Dung added.
An interesting thing that Dr. Tran Nam Dung revealed is that every time he teaches, Dr. Khanh Trinh always writes on the board. No matter who uses electronic lesson plans with multimedia, he still diligently works with chalk and blue and red pens. No matter who gives objective multiple choice tests, he still sticks to essay and self-questioning questions. No matter who is "smart" and chooses Algebra, he still chooses Geometry. The reason is simply because he is Le Ba Khanh Trinh.
