On the afternoon of June 30, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife Le Thi Bich Tran and the Vietnamese delegation arrived at Seongnam military airport in Seoul, starting an official visit to South Korea from June 30 to July 3 at the invitation of Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Duck Soo and his wife.
The visit takes place in the context of Vietnam-Korea relations developing at their best ever. Political trust between the two countries has been increasingly consolidated; defense and security cooperation continues to deepen; local cooperation and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have been continuously expanded.
According to Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu, this official visit to Korea by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife is of utmost importance.
Firstly, the visit demonstrates the importance of the Vietnamese Party and State leaders to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Korea.
Second, the visit will be an opportunity for the two sides to discuss strategic issues, national defense and security, economic cooperation, trade, investment, people-to-people exchange, cooperation at multilateral forums as well as other key areas.
Third, in the context of the rapidly evolving and complicated international and regional situation, the visit aims to affirm Vietnam's foreign policy of continuing to attach importance to friendly and cooperative relations with South Korea...
During this official visit to Korea, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to have more than 30 activities. In addition to official programs with senior Korean leaders, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend and speak at 3 forums, including the Business Forum, the Tourism Promotion and Cultural Cooperation Forum, the Vietnam - Korea Labor Forum and 2 seminars, including a seminar with leaders of Korean economic organizations and a seminar with Korean intellectuals and scientists on semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
More than half of the Prime Minister's activities during this visit will focus on the economic sector.
Economic cooperation has always been a bright spot, an important pillar contributing to the substantial development of bilateral relations. Korea continues to maintain its leading position in direct investment, with a total registered capital of 87 billion USD; a major partner in the top group in terms of trade turnover, reaching nearly 80 billion USD in 2023 and a major partner in development cooperation (ODA), tourism and labor.
In addition, Korea is a developed country with many strengths in economic development, high technology, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. Through diverse activities with the Korean economic sector during this visit, Vietnam expects the two sides to improve the quality and quantity of economic, trade, investment cooperation and supply chain diversification; strengthen cooperation in future areas such as semiconductors, supporting industries, digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy; and promote labor cooperation.
Thereby, the two sides can realize the goal of soon increasing bilateral trade turnover to 100 billion USD and aiming for 150 billion USD by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable manner, contributing to the implementation of the "Strategic Vision" on national development with the goal of becoming a high-income developed country of Vietnam by 2045.
