Before Thanh Duy brought home the gold medal, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation was still "thirsty for gold" when it only won 5 silver medals and 6 bronze medals.

In the men's 65kg weight class competition taking place late on October 27 (Vietnam time), Thanh Duy competed with strong opponents from China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Thanh Duy had a good start when in 3 clean and jerks, the Vietnamese athlete achieved the best result of 120kg.
Entering the clean and jerk competition, Thanh Duy successfully lifted 156kg. In the total lift, Thanh Duy achieved 276kg, thereby ranking first and winning the gold medal.
With the above achievement, the 16-year-old Vietnamese weightlifter broke the Asian youth record and the AYG youth record with a clean and jerk of 156kg. Not only that, with a total lift of 276kg, Thanh Duy also broke the AYG record in this weight class.
This is the first gold medal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at AYG 2025.
Thus, with 1 gold medal, 5 silver medals and 6 bronze medals, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation temporarily rose to rank 19/36 delegations on the overall ranking.
AYG 2025 will compete until October 30, and the Vietnamese Sports Delegation continues to expect some important events to win more medals.
