According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade , the negotiation session took place in an open, goodwill and constructive atmosphere. The Ministers spent time discussing solutions and directions for handling the main outstanding issues in the negotiations between the two countries. Minister Nguyen Hong Dien welcomed the proposals made by Minister Lutnick and Ambassador Greer to promote the negotiation process. The Minister continued to ask the United States to consider areas of interest to Vietnam, including reciprocal tax policies and market access for some of Vietnam's key export groups.
In addition, the Minister emphasized Vietnam's view on wanting to work with the United States to develop harmonious, practical rules of origin that are suitable to the characteristics of the global supply chain, ensuring non-discrimination and creating favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries.
Secretary Lutnick and Ambassador Greer appreciated Vietnam's efforts and goodwill in addressing issues of concern to the United States, and believed that these would help the United States consider a reciprocal tax policy appropriate to Vietnam's specific conditions and circumstances. Both Secretary Lutnick and Ambassador Greer affirmed the United States' desire and determination to negotiate with Vietnam towards an agreement that is in line with the interests of both countries.
Ambassador Greer said that the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) will soon complete and send back to Vietnam the necessary documents so that the two sides can focus on discussions towards results that are in line with the interests of Vietnam and the United States.
