The Agoda 2025 Diving Deals Survey, released late on April 2, revealed interesting trends among Asian diving enthusiasts. Accordingly, Thailand was voted by Vietnamese tourists as the top "diving paradise" thanks to its clear blue waters, rich marine ecosystem, and world-class diving spots.
This is the result of Agoda’s research across 11 Asian markets. The survey affirms the region’s position, especially Southeast Asia, as a diving paradise. With countless mysterious dive sites and rich marine ecosystems, Southeast Asia continues to fascinate divers with its spectacular ocean views and unique marine ecosystems.
“Asia has long been a dream destination for diving enthusiasts, home to world-class diving sites,” said Gede Gunawan, Senior Country Manager for Indonesia at Agoda.
Thanks to its diverse marine ecosystem and convenient transportation, Thailand is considered the top choice for Vietnamese tourists who want to experience scuba diving. Not only Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines are also popular destinations for Vietnamese tourists, showing the increasing interest in exploring the beauty of the underwater world.
In Asia, Indonesia tops the list of most popular diving destinations for international tourists, followed by the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. These countries possess unique ocean treasures, attracting divers from all over the world.

Many tourists said they found absolute peace in the sea, where they could relax their minds and forget all their worries. Nearly a third (about 30%) of the survey respondents said they went scuba diving to enjoy the feeling of relaxation and tranquility in the vast ocean. This trend was especially popular among tourists from the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand.
In addition, the passion for exploring the underwater world is also a big motivator, with 24% of visitors attracted by the mysterious beauty and rich, fascinating marine ecosystem.
Notably, scuba diving enthusiasts are always looking for affordable accommodation, but are not afraid to spend more for the underwater experience. 40% of survey respondents said they are willing to spend 15-30% more on scuba diving trips than on regular vacations.
Short trips are becoming a trend in scuba diving tourism, with 48% of travelers preferring itineraries lasting between 4-7 days. Weekend scuba diving trips are also popular, with 40% of survey respondents opting for them. This trend reflects the growing demand for short but fulfilling experiences that suit the dynamic lifestyle of modern travelers.
Notably, up to 75% of scuba diving enthusiasts prioritize coral reefs as their ideal destination for their ocean exploration journey. With its diverse ecosystems and vibrant coral reefs, Asia continues to attract tourists, affirming its position as an unmissable destination for scuba diving enthusiasts./.
