Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Doan Hoang Minh (left) and Mr. Steven PANG Chee Wee, Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore co-chaired the meeting. |
The meeting took place in the context of Vietnam and Singapore upgrading their relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership last March, as well as relations in areas such as diplomacy, economy , people-to-people exchange, etc. developing strongly.
The two sides agreed that consular and citizen protection are particularly important functions in foreign affairs.
In recent times, consular cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore has been basically close, facilitating the lives, rights and legitimate interests of citizens of the two countries, contributing to promoting diplomatic relations.
The two sides discussed many measures to improve the effectiveness of consular and citizen protection cooperation; spent a lot of time sharing their experiences in performing citizen protection tasks, applying information technology in consular work, and experiences in preparing to join the Hague Convention on the Abolition of Legalization of Public Documents.
