According to the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel), within the framework of the Mobile World Congress 2024 - MWC 2024 taking place in Barcelona (Spain), Viettel signed a memorandum of understanding on the deployment of API (application programming interface) services under the open gateway initiative of the Global Mobile Operators Association - GSMA Open Gateway.
The signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding between Viettel and GSMA took place at the Mobile World Congress 2024
Open Gateway is an initiative to standardize protocols that provide APIs that allow application developers to leverage and use the capabilities of telecommunications networks to deliver new digital services, mainly on 5G networks, and improve customer experience with traditional services such as games and video conferencing. This initiative is global in scale with the participation of major mobile network operators in the world, and will be implemented from 2023.
Viettel is currently the first and only Vietnamese telecommunications operator to participate in the GSMA Open Gateway initiative. By participating in the initiative, Viettel can also define and develop new APIs and develop its own open gateways that meet the GSMA Open Gateway standards. This helps developers and digital service providers in different industries easily integrate with Viettel's network to exploit the network's features, especially the advanced features of the 5G network (high speed, high stability and low latency, large device density).
Viettel and GSMA leaders discuss at the signing ceremony
At the signing ceremony, Mr. Henry Calvert, Director of GSMA Networks, commented: “Viettel is a large telecommunications network. Together we can create, improve and bring new digital services and exciting technologies to market faster and to global customers.”
Since the GSMA Open Gateway was launched at MWC 2023, 47 mobile operator groups, representing 65% of global connections, have joined the initiative. GSMA Open Gateway is focused on accelerating the development of digital services and applications, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with hundreds of participating networks worldwide. More than 40 operators have released a total of 94 APIs for commercial use by enterprise developers in 21 markets including Asia-Pacific, Africa, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.
