On the afternoon of May 10, 2025, at the National Convention Center, Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC) held a ceremony to celebrate its 30th anniversary (1995-2025) and received the Second-class Labor Medal - a noble award from the Party and State, recognizing VIMC's important contributions to the development of the maritime industry and the national marine economy.
Overview of the ceremony
The ceremony was honored to have the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc, members of the Party Central Committee, leaders of central and local ministries, departments and branches; representatives of diplomatic agencies, international organizations; businesses, partners, customers; together with former leaders, leaders and all officers, employees of VIMC and its member enterprises.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Anh Son - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VIMC - was moved to look back on the three decades of challenges but also with pride. He shared: “Thirty years, a journey that has not been smooth, with brilliant periods but also times of having to dive into the depths of difficulty.” From the years of crisis when accumulated losses reached more than VND23,000 billion, and debts to be paid reached VND66,000 billion, VIMC was on the brink of a total crisis. “ But it was in that dark moment that the spirit of those who carried within them pride in the maritime profession... revived this ship and steered it forward.”

With a series of drastic restructuring solutions, focusing on three core areas (seaports, shipping and maritime services), combined with the application of modern management methods and the philosophy of "taking customers as the center", VIMC has gradually recovered spectacularly. From a negative equity level, VIMC has now reached a capitalization value of over VND 100,000 billion, becoming a leading public enterprise in the maritime sector in Vietnam.

The ceremony to award the Second Class Labor Medal – a noble award of the Party and the State – was held in a solemn and emotional atmosphere. The representative of the Ministry of Finance announced the decision and performed the awarding ceremony for Vietnam National Shipping Lines. This is a milestone marking the three-decade journey of a group that has not succumbed to the storms, has known how to “adjust the sails” to rise up and reach the open sea.

On behalf of the Government, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc acknowledged and highly appreciated VIMC’s outstanding efforts over the past 30 years, especially its leading role in developing logistics infrastructure and connecting international trade. “Vietnam National Shipping Lines has overcome many difficulties and challenges with creativity, determination and solidarity – becoming a pillar enterprise in the country’s marine economy.” The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized: “The Second-class Labor Medal awarded today is a testament to VIMC’s persistent and tireless contributions to the national economy.”

In the context of digital transformation and increasingly fierce global competition, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that VIMC continue to pioneer innovation, modernize its fleet, expand its international seaport system, develop smart logistics and proactively integrate more deeply into the international community. “VIMC needs to promote its 30-year tradition, overcome all challenges, proactively take the lead in digital transformation and innovation to become a regional and world-class maritime corporation.”
The celebration ended with a special art program called “The Journey of Mission – Overcoming Waves – Entering a New Era” – recreating the 30-year journey through stage language, music and modern technology graphics. The vivid and emotional images on stage were an inspiring message about a new future – where VIMC continues to grow strongly on the global marine economic map.
Thirty years – a journey that has not been smooth, but is enough to affirm the mettle, stature and aspirations of Vietnam National Shipping Lines. With a solid foundation that has been built, VIMC is ready to embark on new journeys – pioneering, innovative and sustainable.
