Audience ran away to avoid cannon fire: Organizer apologizes

On May 6, Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang, Chief of Office of Hue City People's Committee, informed that the city will continue to organize cannon firing at Ky Dai - Ngo Mon Square every Saturday evening.

At the same time, Hue city is studying opening the Imperial Citadel at night and organizing more activities for visitors to experience, including a culinary space at the Interior Palace.

Regarding the incident of some fireworks fired from the Flag Tower falling into an area with a large number of people and tourists on the evening of May 3, Mr. Giang said that the Chairman of the City People's Committee will work with the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to review and find the most optimal solution for the next events.

On the same morning, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center sent an apology via social media and hoped to receive sympathy from families and tourists affected by the incident.

According to the organizer, a technical problem during the fireworks display on the evening of May 3 affected the safety of some residents and tourists in the Phu Van Lau area. The center pledged to learn from the experience and thoroughly review all technical aspects to ensure absolute safety for the programs that take place regularly on Saturday evenings.

As Dan Tri reported, during the fireworks display at the Hue Imperial Citadel on the evening of May 3, some shells flew over the Ho Thanh moat and fell into the area with many spectators in the Phu Van Lau grounds. When they hit the ground, the shells were still glowing red, causing the spectators to run away, including children. Fortunately, no one was injured.

A representative of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center said that the unit organized the simulated cannon firing activity on the Flag Tower by replacing the old oil-spraying cannon system with a new, environmentally friendly type of cannon.

However, due to some unexpected technical problems such as the installation of equipment and fireworks a day in advance, the fireworks became damp, did not burn completely when fired and fell to the ground.
