Regarding the situation of students in Binh Duong not being able to attend the Opening Ceremony of the new school year on September 5 as reported by VietNamNet, many parents whose children are studying at schools in Binh Duong province also expressed their concerns when the school announced the "selection" of students to attend the opening ceremony.
According to VietNamNet reporters, many schools from elementary to high school in Binh Duong on September 5 announced restrictions on students attending the Opening Ceremony for the same reason: "the school yard is narrow" or "there are not enough seats". Each class is only allowed to have about 5 to 10 students with good academic performance or class leaders attend the opening ceremony. This is also the "criteria" that many schools in Binh Duong have applied for the school festival, although some schools previously announced that they would be randomly selected.
Ms. PSS (residing in Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong Province), whose child is a 7th grader at Phu Hoa Secondary School (Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong Province) said that on September 5, while her classmates were able to attend the opening ceremony, her child had to 'reluctantly' stay home. Her child's class had 5 students who were able to attend the opening ceremony, most of whom were class officers.
Ms. S. believes that the opening ceremony is an important occasion for students, and the school should let all students attend so that they can have memories for later. If there are not enough seats, the school should also find other solutions to ensure a complete opening ceremony for the students.
In Thuan An City, many parents whose children study at Trinh Hoai Duc Secondary School also share similar situations.
According to Mr. L., his child is in 9th grade at this school this year. Since 6th grade, he has not attended the opening ceremony. The reason is that the school limits the number of students attending to less than 10 people per class, including the class committee and students with the highest academic achievements.
It is worth mentioning that Mr. L. said that the parents were not informed about the selection of participants for the opening ceremony. Only when their child told them that he was not allowed to attend did the family find out.
"I think students should attend the opening ceremony, so that they will have memories of their school in the future. My child did not know what an opening ceremony was during his entire secondary school years," Mr. L. shared.
Tan Hiep Secondary School (Tan Uyen City, Binh Duong Province) on the morning of September 5 held the Opening Ceremony in a bustling atmosphere with the participation of provincial and city leaders, but the number of students attending the ceremony was quite limited, while the school has a large and spacious area because it was newly built...
Other schools in Di An City and Ben Cat City of Binh Duong Province also held the new school year opening ceremony in a similar manner with the common reason being that the schools did not have enough seats for students.
Talking to reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhat Hang - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong province said that currently many schools in Binh Duong have small areas, while the number of students is increasing. Therefore, when organizing the Opening Ceremony, schools will proactively come up with a plan suitable to their unit's situation.
In addition, some schools have just received the handover so the gathering of all students to attend the ceremony is limited, some others have unfavorable travel conditions so the number of students attending is not enough.
According to the Department's leader, limiting the number of students attending the opening ceremony is not the policy of the education sector. Previously, the Department also had instructions on organizing the Opening Ceremony for all levels of schools in localities throughout the province. The content includes the ceremony and the festival, suitable to the specific situation of each educational institution and the psychology of students at each level.
“Currently, most schools in Binh Duong are small, while the number of students increases every year, so it will be difficult for all students to attend the ceremony. This is also a problem that the provincial education sector is facing. We hope that people will share this difficulty with the schools,” said Ms. Hang.
