Poisoning case in Ho Chi Minh City: One severe case, one pregnant woman at risk of premature birth

Among the hospitalized cases, there is a serious case being monitored at the Intensive Care Unit of Tam Anh General Hospital and a pregnant woman at risk of premature birth being treated at My Duc Hospital.

Regarding the food poisoning case after eating bread, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health , by the afternoon of November 8, authorities had recorded 162 cases of hospitalization at 6 hospitals in the area.

Notably, there was one severe case that had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and a pregnant woman at risk of premature birth.

Accordingly, Military Hospital 175 recorded 100 emergency admissions, Tam Anh General Hospital recorded 20 cases, Gia Dinh People's Hospital recorded 36 cases, Binh Dan Hospital recorded 1 case, My Duc Hospital (Tan Binh) recorded 1 case, Becamex International Hospital recorded 5 cases. Currently, there have been 105 cases, 57 cases continue to be monitored and treated as inpatients.

Most victims started with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, fatigue, varying degrees of severity.

Initial results from a blood culture sample of an emergency victim at Gia Dinh People's Hospital tested positive for Salmonella - bacteria that cause gastrointestinal infections.

Information from the victims admitted to the emergency room showed that these cases bought and used bread at Co Bich bread shop at both locations: location 1 is located at 112A Nguyen Thai Son Street, Hanh Thong Ward; location 2 is located at 363 Le Quang Dinh Street, Binh Loi Trung Ward.

After the incident, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety inspected two Co Bich Toad Bread establishments.

Co Bich Toad Bread establishment at 112A Nguyen Thai Son has a business registration under Business Registration Certificate No. 41M8041520 issued by the People's Committee of Go Vap District on May 7, 2020; Certificate of knowledge on food safety No. 327/2017/XNKT-YTDPHM dated April 11, 2017 by the Center for Preventive Medicine of Hoc Mon District with the business line of selling bread. The owner of the establishment is Ms. Ly Nguyen Ngoc Bich Van.

At the time of inspection, the business was temporarily suspended and had two regular employees. The food products, including ham, cold cuts, pate, eggs, vegetables, chili, cucumbers, etc., all had invoices and documents proving their clear origin.

The facility is equipped with a refrigerator to preserve food and has a record book for importing and exporting goods. Processing and preservation tools must be hygienic; the processing area has a roof and measures to protect it from insects and harmful animals.

The inspection team sealed the food cabinets to verify and investigate the cause of the incident.

The second location of Co Bich Toad Bread at 363 Le Quang Dinh has been closed since the morning of November 7. According to the investigation, this location is just a cart selling on the sidewalk and has been in operation for over a year.

Authorities continue to investigate to determine the cause of the incident./.
