Wenger criticizes Barcelona for being 'like children' after defeat

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave his candid views on the just-concluded El Clasico at the Bernabeu, where Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2-1 to consolidate their lead at the top of La Liga.

According to the French coach, Xabi Alonso's team showed superior class, while Barca appeared immature in every aspect.

“This El Clasico is like a match between men and children,” Wenger said when analyzing on European television. “Real Madrid’s defense is much stronger than Barcelona’s. Up front, they always give the impression that they can score, while Barca only know how to pass the ball without threatening the opponent’s goal.”

Although Barcelona had more possession, their lack of attacking sharpness prevented them from making a difference. Real Madrid, on the other hand, pressed fiercely, won most of their duels and constantly exploited the space behind the visitors' inexperienced defence.

Wenger also praised coach Xabi Alonso, who is helping Madrid regain their composure in big matches. “Xabi deserves credit. He has created a team that is balanced in both attack and defense,” Wenger emphasized.

This victory helps Real Madrid widen the gap with their arch-rivals, and at the same time sends a powerful message: the balance of power in El Clasico is now clearly tilted towards Bernabeu.
