On the evening of May 3, a 2-minute clip about a noisy incident that allegedly occurred at Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital was circulated on social media.

According to the clip, a man saw a child having an accident with a homemade tricycle, so he helped and took the child to the emergency room. However, when he brought the child to Nam Dinh General Hospital, the medical staff required that the full hospital deposit be paid before the child could be given emergency treatment.

Talking to VietNamNet reporter, Mr. HTT (residing in Nam Dinh city), the person who brought the child to the hospital, said that on the afternoon of May 3, he was installing air conditioning for a family in Thanh Loi commune (Vu Ban district, Nam Dinh) when he heard a traffic collision. When he ran down to see, he saw a child collide with a homemade tricycle. Because the young parents were not home at the time, and the surrounding neighbors were all elderly, Mr. T. immediately took his motorbike to take the child to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Upon arriving at Nam Dinh General Hospital, the child was examined by a doctor, had his heart rate measured and was instructed by Mr. T. to pay a deposit of 2 million VND for hospital fees.

Mr. T. said he only brought 500,000 VND, so the doctor instructed him to go to the room to pay the hospital fee in advance.

“When I brought the advance payment paper to a counter at the hospital, I explained the incident and asked the doctors to give emergency treatment to the child. The child’s father was holding the money and I was just a passerby, not carrying much money. At that time, the medical staff here insisted that the full amount had to be paid before taking the X-ray, which made me very upset and I took out my phone to record. When I finished the video , a few minutes later, the child was taken for X-ray,” said Mr. T.

On the evening of May 3, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Ms. Hoang Thi Kim Yen, Director of Nam Dinh General Hospital, said that the hospital is verifying the above information.

The leader of Nam Dinh Department of Health informed that he had asked the hospital to check the camera at the time of the incident to verify whether the child was given emergency treatment and what his current condition was, then report to the Department of Health.

At around 3:50 p.m. on May 3, on the inter-hamlet road in Hamlet 7, Thanh Loi Commune (Vu Ban District, Nam Dinh), a traffic accident occurred between a homemade three-wheeled vehicle driven by Nguyen Dinh H. (born in 1989, residing in Thanh Loi Commune) and MTA (born in 2021, residing in Thanh Loi Commune). As a result, TA was injured and had to be taken to the emergency room.
