Focus on implementation
In the period of 2021-2025, Can Tho City has identified the goal of building a basic transport infrastructure network to ensure connectivity, creating a premise for the development of industries and fields. In particular, priority is given to investing in new construction and upgrading to complete the implementation of urgent and key transport projects. The city has focused on mobilizing resources to deploy a series of transport projects, gradually completing the transport infrastructure in the area, better serving the travel, transportation of goods, and trade of people and businesses. The City Department of Construction has coordinated with departments, branches, sectors, and localities to advise competent authorities to launch the emulation movement "Promoting the development of synchronous and modern infrastructure; practicing thrift, fighting waste" in the city, creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere, promoting the tradition of "going first to pave the way".
Can Tho City currently has a total road length of more than 2,700km. Including 1 Lo Te - Rach Soi expressway with a length of 28km; 9 national highways with a total length of more than 535.2km; 38 provincial roads with a total length of nearly 1,100km and district roads (old). The city has been implementing 4 categories of national traffic works, including: upgrading and expanding National Highway 1; Dai Ngai Bridge on National Highway 60, including the planned section of National Highway 60 (from National Highway 91B to existing National Highway 60); Can Tho - Hau Giang expressway belonging to the North - South expressway system in the East in the period 2021-2025; component projects 2, 3, 4 of Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway phase 1. Currently, the investor and contractor are speeding up the construction progress to ensure the completion of the expressways according to the direction of the Prime Minister.
For the local transport system, the City Department of Construction coordinates with relevant agencies to prioritize investment in replacing weak bridges and investing in new ones, upgrading and expanding provincial roads, ensuring technical standards according to the planning of some routes to commune centers, connecting with national highways, provincial roads with provincial roads. Accordingly, it has been upgrading and constructing new routes and sections of important provincial roads such as provincial roads 932, 932B, 933, 934, 934B, 937, 937B, 938, 939, 940; building and upgrading and expanding provincial road 923; Can Tho City's Western Belt Road project (connecting National Highway 91 to National Highway 61C)... The city also put into use the bus stop project: 501 modern passenger pick-up and drop-off stops, gradually completing the bus service infrastructure system, contributing to promoting the development of public passenger transport in the area.
Localities are also interested in allocating funding sources, integrating them into target programs to invest in the construction of traffic works, associated with new rural construction. From 2024 to July 1, 2025 alone, localities have invested in the construction, upgrading and expansion of 286 rural traffic works with a length of more than 344.4km and 163 rural bridge works with a length of more than 8.8km; the total implementation cost is more than 1,363 billion VND.

Promote the development of transport infrastructure
Can Tho City is focusing on accelerating the progress of key transport infrastructure projects invested by the Central Government and the city in the area. When completed and put into use, these projects will create momentum to promote the comprehensive socio -economic development of the city. Along with that, the city is preparing to invest in the construction of transport works, forming a synchronous connection network.
To effectively carry out the task of promoting the development of a synchronous and modern infrastructure system in the new context, the City Department of Construction has coordinated with relevant agencies to review and evaluate the current status of traffic infrastructure, on that basis proposing a medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030. The City is preparing to invest in a number of projects such as the Western Ring Road of Can Tho City (section connecting National Highway 91 to Lo Te - Rach Soi route and National Highway 80); building overpasses at 2 key intersections (intersection No. 1 of Mau Than Street - 3/2 Street - Tran Hung Dao Street; intersection No. 4 of Nguyen Van Linh Street - 3/2 Street); East-West Economic Axis Road Project of Soc Trang Province (old); Implement investment procedures to build roads to improve connectivity in the Southeast region of Soc Trang province (old) and connect with Bac Lieu province (now Ca Mau province), Tra Vinh (now Vinh Long province)...
According to Mr. Tran Le Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of Can Tho City, the Department of Construction continues to coordinate with departments, branches, sectors and localities to carry out the emulation movement "Promoting the development of synchronous and modern infrastructure; practicing thrift and combating waste" in the city. In addition, advising the City People's Committee on key traffic projects to ensure thrift, combat waste and achieve practical efficiency. Implementing the maintenance and repair of provincial roads according to the assigned plan; regularly checking the quality of construction works under construction. Carrying out the appraisal of designs and estimates of construction works and projects to ensure quality, thrift, efficiency and meet the required progress. At the same time, strengthening the inspection, supervision and immediate handling of problems related to the progress and quality of works. Continue to promote and raise awareness of science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation, digital skills, data synthesis, analysis and processing skills; regularly review and update administrative procedures in the construction sector.

Regularly inspect, survey, promptly repair and upgrade bridges and roads to meet the travel and trade needs of the people as well as ensure the traffic criteria in building a model new rural commune.
