Promoting economic development and increasing people's income is one of the important goals of the new rural construction program. In recent years, Phu Yen district has focused on directing and mobilizing people to change the structure of crops and livestock, improve production efficiency, productivity, quality and product value, contributing to creating jobs for people.

Ms. Bac Cam Thi Xieng, Head of the District's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: The district has actively implemented the province's support policies, integrating capital sources to support the development of high-tech agriculture, organic agricultural production, bringing high economic value, contributing to job creation, increasing income, helping communes soon reach the new rural commune finish line.
In particular, the organic rice growing model is being replicated in many communes in the area. Up to now, the whole district has cultivated more than 520 hectares of organic rice; of which, 130 hectares have been granted organic agricultural certificates by the Center for Analysis and Certification of Agricultural Product Quality; the Intellectual Property Office has granted the Certificate of Registration of the trademark "Phu Yen Rice", contributing to the completion of the legal framework, creating a solid foundation and value to enhance the position of "Phu Yen Rice" products in the market.
With the support of programs and projects, Quang Huy Agricultural Service Cooperative, Quang Huy Commune has converted the rice growing area from traditional methods to organic farming. Ms. Cam Thi Ngan, Director of the Cooperative, said: Cooperative members are supported with techniques and fertilizers; trained in technical processes of sowing and planting, using organic fertilizers for each stage of rice growth; using biological pesticides to prevent pests and clean water for irrigation... Organic rice farming helps the Cooperative create high-quality, safe rice products with a yield of nearly 7 tons/ha, increasing the product value by 20-25% compared to the price of regular rice.
In 2008, Mr. Le Van Toan's family in Van Tan village, Muong Coi commune, invested in converting 2 hectares of ineffective hilly land to grow oranges organically. Mr. Toan shared: Every year, my family harvests 30-50 tons of fruit, earning more than 1.2 billion VND/year. Growing oranges organically helps protect the health of growers and the environment, while the quality and value of the product are also improved.
As for Nghia Hung village, Muong Coi commune, from a poor village has become the first model new rural village of Phu Yen district. Mr. Nguyen Duc Cuong, Party cell secretary, village head, said: People in Nghia Hung village have changed their thinking and way of doing things. Up to now, people no longer depend on one type of crop or one type of livestock, instead, there are diverse models of livestock development, afforestation, citrus fruit growing, business, transportation... bringing significant income to the people.
With economic development, along with the support of the state of over 2 billion VND, households in Nghia Hung village have contributed 730 million VND and more than 1,300 working days to invest in building infrastructure works, such as: cultural houses, concrete alleys, inner-field roads; domestic water and lighting systems, and renovation of residential houses. 100% of the village roads have been paved with asphalt and concrete; 100% of households have done a good job of cleaning residential areas, ensuring order and tidiness, with 18 points for collecting household waste; every month, people in the village organize cleaning of village roads and alleys; security and order are maintained.
It can be seen that the models not only create economic value but also help improve people's lives, contributing to the new rural construction program. Up to now, Phu Yen district has 10/26 communes meeting new rural standards.
Promoting restructuring in agriculture towards improving the value and quality of products while protecting the environment and using natural resources effectively and sustainably, Phu Yen district continues to promote organic agricultural production, contributing to promoting agricultural and rural development and effectively implementing the task of building new rural areas.
