According to information from the People's Committee of Na Ri district ( Bac Kan province), at around 9:00 p.m. on May 26, in Kim Lu commune, an accident occurred when both a person and a motorbike fell into a "death hole" located in the middle of the median strip on National Highway 3B.
According to local residents, the motorcyclist (gender unknown) was traveling from Bac Kan to Lang Son at high speed when he crashed into a fenced area warning of danger due to a large sinkhole. Both the driver and the motorbike then fell into the deep hole.
After receiving the information, the Na Ri District People's Committee urgently directed forces including soldiers, police and militia to organize search and rescue for more than 3 hours.
However, the location of the collapse is very deep, and there is a possibility of complex underground water caves causing danger in the area where the incident occurred. Meanwhile, the rescue team does not have specialized, modern equipment, so there are no results yet.
Na Ri district proactively informed the road management unit under the Department of Construction to report to Bac Kan province to consider supporting the search and rescue force; at the same time, directed to maintain the barrier, send forces to protect the area where the incident occurred and continue the search and rescue plans on the morning of May 27.
At 12 noon the same day, the search was being carried out by the authorities of Bac Kan province, however the victim had not yet been found.
The "death hole" on Highway 3B is one of seven holes in Kim Lu commune that have appeared in the past two months. The hole is more than 10 meters in diameter and about 10 meters deep. Authorities dumped materials into the hole but they were all washed away. Authorities have cordoned off the area and banned vehicles from entering.
On May 14, the People's Committee of Bac Kan province decided to declare a natural disaster emergency due to the sinkhole phenomenon in Kim Lu commune, Na Ri district. This phenomenon directly threatens the safety of people's lives and property in the area (around the sinkhole area, there are 21 households, 92 people in Hiep Luc village, Kim Lu commune and about 12 hectares of agricultural land).
The Provincial People's Committee requested Na Ri district and specialized agencies to use materials to fill sinkholes, monitor subsidence, promptly detect signs, and delimit dangerous areas. At the same time, the locality proactively evacuated and relocated people from dangerous areas, arranged accommodation and ensured logistics for people at evacuation sites.
