Consider supporting tuition fees, not collecting tuition fees for preschool children and primary school students in areas affected by storms and floods

The document stated that the Ministry of Education and Training has issued Official Dispatch No. 2179/BGDĐT-KHTC dated May 13, 2024 and Official Dispatch No. 4916/BGDĐT dated August 30, 2024 to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities on the implementation of revenues in the field ofeducation and training for the 2024-2025 school year.

In recent times, in addition to policies on tuition exemption and reduction, support for learning costs and tuition fee payment according to Government regulations, many provinces and cities have issued Resolutions on tuition fee support policies for preschool and primary school students in the area. The Ministry of Education and Training highly appreciates the attention and care of provinces and cities for education and sharing difficulties with parents and students.

Storm No. 3 (Storm YAGI ) and the floods following the recent storm have severely affected many provinces and cities. The Ministry of Education and Training requests that the People's Committees of provinces and cities continue to consider and decide on tuition support, exemption of tuition fees for preschool children and primary school students according to their authority and current legal regulations to share and support parents and students, especially students in areas affected by storms, floods and natural disasters.

The report on damage caused by storm No. 3 and storm circulation to the education sector shows that, according to the reports of 18/26 provinces and centrally-run cities sent to the Ministry of Education and Training, as of September 16, 2024, the total damage to facilities and teaching equipment is estimated at 1,260 billion VND, with 41,564 sets of textbooks damaged.

Specifically, damage to facilities: 514,730 million VND. Of which: Preschool Education: 117,637 million VND; Primary Education: 139,515 million VND; Secondary School: 142,044 million VND; High School: 115,534 million VND.

Damage to teaching equipment: 745,801 million VND. Of which: Preschool Education: 306,618 million VND; Primary Education: 169,514 million VND; Secondary School: 156,028 million VND; High School: 113,642 million VND.

Damage to textbooks: 41,564 sets of books. Of which: Primary education: 23,943 sets of books; Middle school: 10,598 sets of books; High school: 7,023 sets of books.
