The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued Decision No. 2618/QD-UBND dated May 24 on ranking 21 historical-cultural relics and scenic spots in the city. This is a concrete step in conserving and promoting the value of tangible cultural heritages, associated with tourism development and traditionaleducation .
According to the above Decision, the ranked relics are spread across 8 districts with many valuable works in terms of history and architectural art such as: Tan Tien Communal House (Ha Dong), Canh Linh Pagoda (Ha Dong), Dong Lao Communal House (Hoai Duc), Sen Tri Pagoda (Thach That), Giap Ba Communal House (Phu Xuyen), Kha Lieu Pagoda (Phu Xuyen), Thuan An Pagoda (Ba Vi), Van Hong Communal House (Ba Vi)... Ba Vi District has the largest number in this ranking with 10 relics, clearly reflecting the cultural depth of the western gateway land of the Capital, where there are many ancient villages, sacred temples and pagodas and rich folk cultural heritage.
Other suburban districts such as Ung Hoa, Phu Xuyen, Thanh Oai also have many clan relics, communal houses, and ancient pagodas associated with the long-standing settlement process of residents in the Northern Delta.
Immediately after the ranking, the People's Committees of districts and towns where the ranked relics are located are responsible for publicizing the protected area of the relics; organizing the preparation and implementation of dossiers on placing boundary markers to protect the relics in accordance with regulations. At the same time, the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns with relics are responsible for establishing a relic management board, organizing the protection of the current status, space and original artifacts of the relics and managing revenue from relic activities in accordance with current regulations.
The City People's Committee also requires strictly prohibiting construction and exploitation activities in the protected relic area. In special cases where there is a need to use land or construct in this area, the approval of the City People's Committee is required.
The ranking of relics this time contributes to realizing the Monument Conservation Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045 of Hanoi city.
According to the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports , as of early 2025, the entire city has more than 5,900 relics, of which nearly 2,400 relics have been ranked at all levels, including more than 1,800 City-level relics and more than 1,100 National-level relics, including 5 special national relics.
Along with its massive system of relics, Hanoi is also the leading locality in the country in the work of restoration, embellishment and promotion of heritage values. In recent years, the city has invested thousands of billions of VND from the budget and mobilized social resources to restore hundreds of degraded relics, creating an important premise for the development of cultural tourism, traditional education and building the cultural identity of the thousand-year-old capital./.
