Classes are based on students' abilities and interests.

DNO - According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training, high schools are encouraged to arrange classes according to their chosen subjects and, when qualified, organize two sessions per day. These guidelines aim to help schools in Da Nang city have specific directions to carry out educational tasks for the new school year.

Nguyen Trai High School (Lien Chieu Ward, Da Nang City) pioneered the implementation of flexible class placement early, before official guidance from the Ministry. This action opened up opportunities to study subjects suitable to students' abilities and interests, demonstrating the school's vision and initiative.

Sharing about the innovation in this school year, Mr. Phan Quoc Duy, Vice Principal of the school emphasized: “The school has carefully studied the educational trends in recent years, especially in the selection of subject combinations of universities. This is an important step, to help students develop their potential and prepare well for the learning journey ahead.”

Unlike previous years, since the beginning of April 2025, Nguyen Trai High School has developed a plan for enrollment and implemented a more flexible class placement mechanism. Instead of applying available "combo" combinations, students can register for their favorite subjects according to their personal wishes.

To support, the school organizes consultations for students and parents on how to choose subjects, regulations on high school graduation exams, as well as university admission methods.

In addition to compulsory subjects, students are allowed to study 4 elective subjects with the registration method for these subjects in order of priority from 1 to 6. The class placement process is strictly implemented, ensuring both student rights and being suitable for school resources.

This school year, with the assigned quota of 9 classes, the school has arranged 8 subject groups, in which each student can study the subject they registered for, with 2 priority subjects 1 and 2. The study topics are formed based on 3 popular subjects and priorities from 1 to 4 of the majority of students.

Some students are arranged to take “special subjects” classes according to their wishes, with reasonable class sizes. Thanks to the new method, the number of students requesting to change classes has decreased significantly compared to previous years.

Ms. Le Chi, mother of a 10th grade student admitted to the school, shared: "At first, I was worried about how to arrange classes according to my child's interests, but after being consulted on how to choose a combination of subjects for university admission, I felt more secure."

Hoang Minh, a 10th grader, said: “Being able to choose and study subjects based on my interests helps me enjoy and look forward to the new school year. At first, I was a bit worried that the class would be too crowded or that I would be placed in the wrong group, but the school gave me clear advice.”

In Da Nang, Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted has long organized classes based on specialized subjects. However, for public schools, organizing classes based on subject selection is still quite new. Nguyen Trai High School has made efforts to change and boldly innovate to suit the trend of modern education.

However, organizing classes based on students' wishes also faces many challenges. Mr. Nguyen Duc Phuoc, the school's principal, said that building a timetable for many subject groups is a complex problem, requiring meticulous calculation.

In addition, the school must also consider the allocation of teachers, facilities and functional rooms to ensure uniformity in classes, avoiding overloading pressure on teachers and students. Despite the difficulties, the school is still proactive in implementing solutions to ensure learning quality.

In addition, Nguyen Trai School is also one of the first public schools in Da Nang to implement two-session learning per day according to the direction of the Ministry of Education and Training , the City People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training. At the same time, the school will continue to renovate classrooms and equipment to ensure favorable learning conditions and support the implementation of flexible class arrangement as well as two-session learning.

Thanks to careful preparation and close coordination with parents, Nguyen Trai High School pioneered in organizing classes according to subject preferences, opening a new direction for public schools in Da Nang in the journey of educational innovation.

With this pioneering step, schools not only create opportunities for students to study the subjects they love, maximize their personal abilities, but also affirm innovation.
