Faced with this situation, Nam Irrigation Limited Company is urgently salvaging duckweed to ensure water flow for rice irrigation.
At the Tho Son - Cho Cau pumping station canal, Nghi Trung commune, Nghi Loc district, for many days now, workers of Nghi Loc Irrigation Enterprise have been mobilized to the maximum to salvage water hyacinth. The canal surface is covered with a layer of green water hyacinth, blocking the flow. Most of the workers have to work very hard, soaking in the water, using manual tools to salvage the water hyacinth.
Mr. Dang Xuan Duyet - Director of Nghi Loc Irrigation Enterprise said: "The Tho Son pumping station's canal system is 3km long, taking water from the Gai River to serve more than 1,000 hectares of spring rice in Nghi Lien, Nghi Trung, Nghi Long, Nghi Xa communes. However, due to favorable weather conditions for the growth of water hyacinth, in a short time, this type of plant has covered the flow, seriously hindering water pumping activities".
Faced with that situation, from April 24 until now, the unit has mobilized more than 120 workers, coordinating with specialized machinery to salvage duckweed, expected to be completed in about 10 days.

Not only in Nghi Loc, at Nghi Quang Bara Sluice, the water hyacinth situation is also becoming alarming. According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan - Head of Nghi Quang Bara Station, the amount of water hyacinth floating from the upstream of Cam River is dense, covering the sluice area, seriously affecting the operation of opening/closing the sluice, especially in the work of preventing salinity and preserving fresh water.
"We have mobilized all our manpower to collect the duckweed, however, in some places the duckweed is too thick and we cannot handle it in time," Mr. Tuan shared.
The situation is similar in many other intra-field canals in Nam Dan district. At Bau Non canal in Nam Anh commune, the management unit is urgently mobilizing machinery to dredge the silted mud layer combined with removing duckweed, to ensure water for Nam Anh pumping station to irrigate hundreds of hectares of spring rice.

Mr. Bui Van Hao - Chairman and Director of the company worked very hard, Irrigation Nam said: "This spring crop, we ensured irrigation for more than 18,000 hectares of rice in Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen, Nghi Loc districts and Vinh city. However, due to many canals being silted and covered with water hyacinth, water regulation work encountered many obstacles. Although we organize periodic dredging every year, due to the rapid growth of water hyacinth, maintaining smooth flow still encountered many difficulties".
Faced with the above situation, the company has directed its affiliated enterprises to mobilize maximum workforce and machinery, urgently dredge key canals. At the same time, closely coordinate with local authorities to effectively and promptly implement the work of salvaging duckweed to ensure water sources for production during the period when rice needs water to form ears and bloom./.
