Two women in Hanoi fined for selling 'magic charms' on Facebook

On the evening of September 26, the leader of Hanoi City Police said that through monitoring the situation on cyberspace, the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention discovered a number of Facebook accounts regularly posting articles selling "magic charms" with superstitious and heretical content on social networks.

During the verification, the police identified the account owners as D.KT (born in 1994, in Lang Thuong, Dong Da, Hanoi) and NTN (born in 1993, in Phuc La, Ha Dong, Hanoi). The Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (Hanoi City Police) coordinated with Dong Da District Police and Ha Dong District Police to invite these two people to the headquarters for questioning.

At the police station, both admitted their violations. The police also requested that the above cases remove information promoting bad customs, superstitions, and heresies that are not in accordance with good customs and traditions on social networks and pledge not to repeat the offense.

The police have drawn up a record and decided to fine the two cases above for the act of "Providing and sharing information promoting bad customs, superstition, obscenity, depravity, and incompatible with the nation's traditions and customs". The fine for each of these cases is 7.5 million VND.

Hanoi City Police also stated that recently, understanding the curiosity and gullibility of many people who want their career, love life, etc. to be smooth, on social networks there are many articles with content selling items such as magic charms of a superstitious nature.

Many people put their hopes on unscientific magic spells, not only losing money and getting sick, but also creating a mentality of confusion, dependence, and waiting for luck from magic spells that can easily be taken advantage of by bad guys. Some people have become victims of fraud, even losing tens or hundreds of millions of dong just because they believe in magic spells on the internet.

Faced with the above situation, Hanoi City Police recommends that people need to be alert to recognize the true nature of this problem, not believe in baseless rumors about magic spells, not believe in baseless fortune telling to be confused, losing money and getting sick.
