According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the functional departments of Lam Dong province have worked with Da Lat Caviar Company Limited to deploy a model of application and development of sturgeon breeds. Currently, at the sturgeon farm of Da Lat Caviar Company Limited (Sub-area 42, Dung K'No commune, Lac Duong district), experts from the Institute of Aquaculture Research III directly carry out breeding techniques and artificial seed production: Raising parent fish, selecting healthy mature parent fish, collecting sperm and eggs, fertilizing eggs, raising larvae, raising fingerlings, etc.
Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has just estimated a budget of nearly 1.2 billion VND, of which 30% is supported by the state budget and 70% is counterpart capital from enterprises to continue developing this model from the existing foundation. The scale of the project is to domesticate and mature 1,700 sturgeon parents from 5 years old, produce 1.5 million sturgeon fry and 1 million sturgeon fingerlings of guaranteed quality, meeting the demand for commercial farming in and outside the locality. The output of cold-water fish in Lam Dong has currently reached over 2,300 tons, with an estimated value of 450 billion VND/year. Being proactive in the source of quality sturgeon fingerlings locally will contribute to reducing production costs, improving productivity and ensuring the quality of sturgeon raised on the plateau.
