328 people hospitalized after eating bread in Dong Nai, Ministry of Health urgently directs

On the evening of May 2, the Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Health announced that it had just sent an official dispatch requesting the Dong Nai Province Department of Health to direct hospitals that are treating patients suspected of food poisoning after eating bread at a store in Xuan Binh Ward, Long Khanh City.

This move came after the Food Safety Department received a report from the Dong Nai Province Food Safety Sub-Department regarding the incident. The Department requested Dong Nai to focus resources on actively treating food poisoning patients so as not to affect their health and lives.

"Urgently investigate to determine the cause of the poisoning according to regulations, take food and medical samples for testing to find the cause and publicize the results to promptly warn the community," the request from the Food Safety Department stated.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health 's agency requested the province to immediately suspend the bakery facility suspected of causing food poisoning in the area; check the food safety conditions of the above facility; if any violations are detected, they must be strictly handled according to regulations.

Previously, on the evening of May 1, Long Khanh Regional General Hospital (Dong Nai) said that the unit was treating more than 70 patients suspected of food poisoning after eating bread in Xuan Binh ward between 3-7pm on April 30.

After eating, the patient showed symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain, etc. Many people bought medicine to take at home but did not get better so they had to be hospitalized on the morning of May 1.

As of 3:00 p.m. on May 2, at least 328 patients had been hospitalized for treatment, some of whom had been discharged. In addition to Long Khanh Regional General Hospital, which received the most patients, Dong Nai Rubber General Hospital also received 13 cases of hospitalization for treatment, with the patients' health currently stable.

By the afternoon of May 2, Dong Nai Children's Hospital also announced that it had received and treated 12 pediatric patients transferred from Long Khanh Regional General Hospital. Among them, a 6-year-old patient was transferred in a serious condition, with cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest... Previously, a 7-year-old patient was also admitted to the hospital in a state of respiratory failure and severe shock. This patient is currently still on a ventilator, blood filtration and continuous fluid replacement.

Long Khanh City Medical Center inspected the bakery and discovered that the establishment did not have a certificate of food safety and hygiene. The inspection team requested the establishment to temporarily suspend its bakery business until the competent authority has a conclusion and to coordinate with the authorities in finding the cause.
