First 8 months of the year: Consumer price index increased by more than 4%

DNVN - In the first 8 months of the year, the consumer price index increased by 4.04% compared to the same period last year. The reason was the increase in prices of food services, electricity, water, fuel, construction materials, housing rent, tuition fees and medical services.

According to the report of the General Statistics Office published on September 6, the prices of consumer goods and services in August increased and decreased. In particular, the prices of food, foodstuffs, and rental housing increased compared to July, and domestic gasoline prices decreased following world prices.

Overall, the consumer price index (CPI) in August remained stable compared to the previous month. Compared to the same period last year, the CPI in August increased by 3.45%. Of the 11 main consumer goods and services groups, 10 had a slight increase in price index; only the transportation group saw a decrease in price compared to the previous month.

Prices of consumer goods and services in August fluctuated.

According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 8 months of the year, CPI increased by 4.04% compared to the same period last year. The main reason was the increase in prices of food and catering services when domestic rice prices increased following export rice prices and consumer demand increased during holidays and Tet, along with increased pork prices; and the increase in housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials.

At the same time, in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years, some localities have increased tuition fees according to resolutions of provincial people's councils; medical service prices are adjusted according to Circular No. 22/2023/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health and health insurance increases according to the basic salary.

Core inflation in August 2024 increased by 0.24% over the previous month and by 2.53% over the same period last year. On average, in the first 8 months of 2024, core inflation increased by 2.71% over the same period in 2023, lower than the average CPI increase (4.04%).
