
Figures from the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ) released on September 6 showed that the industrial production index (IIP) in August is estimated to increase by 2.2% compared to the previous month and by 8.9% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 9.5% compared to the same period last year; the mining industry increased by 9.1%; electricity production and distribution increased by 6.1%; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment increased by 2.4%.
In the first 8 months of 2025, IIP is estimated to increase by 8.5% over the same period last year (increased by 8.4% in the same period in 2024). Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 10% (increased by 9.5% in the same period in 2024), contributing 8.1 percentage points to the overall increase; the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 9.1% (increased by 9.2% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.1 percentage point; the electricity production and distribution industry increased by 4.9% (increased by 11.7% in the same period in 2024), contributing 0.5 percentage point; the mining industry decreased by 1.1% (increased by 6.5% in the same period in 2024), causing a decrease of 0.2 percentage points.
Notably, the industrial production index in the first 8 months of 2025 of some key secondary industries increased compared to the same period last year. These include motor vehicle production up 27.4%; rubber and plastic product production up 17.5%; other non-metallic mineral product production up 15.0%; garment production up 13.9%; leather and related product production up 13.4%.
Production of prefabricated metal products (except machinery and equipment) increased by 12%; production of beds, cabinets, tables and chairs increased by 11.8%; metal production increased by 10.5%; food processing increased by 10.1%; wood processing and production of products from wood, bamboo, rattan... increased by 9.6%.
On the contrary, the IIP index of some industries increased slightly or decreased such as: Hard coal and lignite mining increased by 3.9%; beverage production increased by 2.6%; crude oil and natural gas exploitation decreased by 5.5%.
Industrial production index in the first 8 months of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in all 34 localities.
