The Egyptian military has deployed the aircraft carrier Mistral to the Libyan coast to provide emergency relief to victims affected by severe flooding caused by Hurricane Daniel.
According to the Daily News, the Mistral aircraft carrier is equipped with a medical station and will serve as a field hospital. The deployment of the Mistral aircraft carrier was carried out on the orders of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to continue humanitarian aid and relief operations for flood victims in Libya.
Earlier, Egyptian naval vessels also arrived in the Libyan coastal city of Derna to help recover the bodies of flood victims at sea. Derna and other areas in eastern Libya were among the hardest hit by the storm.
According to the latest figures from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least 11,300 people have died in Libya and thousands more remain missing after devastating floods caused by storms.
