According to a VNA correspondent in New Delhi, MarketWatch analyzed United Nations (UN) data showing that India has surpassed China to become the world's most populous country with a population of 1,425,782,975 people as of April 14, 2023, while China's population has decreased to 1,425,748,032 people. China has held the position of the world's most populous country since 1950, when the UN began publishing population data.
MarketWatch looked at the daily rate of change to determine the exact moment when India’s population surpassed China’s. It’s a crude, but widely accepted, approach. UN data shows the difference in population from Jan. 1 to July 1, with India adding an average of about 36,470 people per day, while China’s population declined, albeit slowly, by about 983 people per day.
