The An Giang Sub-Project to enhance water adaptation and management capacity for the upstream Mekong River region was implemented in An Phu district, An Giang province (before merger), with a total investment of 714 billion VND.

Recently, the Ministry of Finance commented on merging two projects from the provinces of Kien Giang and An Giang before their merger to optimize resources and improve management efficiency, with the proposed project name: Integrated Climate Resilience and Livelihood Transformation Project for Sustainable and Prosperous Development in the Mekong Delta (WB11).

The WB11 project will be implemented in an area of approximately 38,000 hectares in Hon Dat, Binh Son, Son Kien, and Vinh Gia communes in An Giang province; with a total investment of VND 2,860 billion (equivalent to USD 113.54 million), and an investment period from 2026 to 2030.

Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc presented gifts to Ms. Mariam J. Sherman - World Bank Director for Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, East Asia and the Pacific region.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc expressed gratitude for the World Bank's effective attention, companionship, and support for sustainable development programs and projects in the Mekong Delta in general and An Giang province in particular over the past time.

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province stated that, based on the overall results achieved by the WB9 Project to date, the embankment and dike systems for controlling early-season floods, and the drainage sluices ensure reasonable regulation between the dry and flood seasons and control salinity.

The area has been transformed into an adaptive livelihood model, helping to increase income for people in the project area. Climate-smart production models such as rice-aquaculture, rice-lotus, and rice-crop-aquaculture have been widely adopted, affirming their economic and ecological effectiveness. This is concrete evidence of the effectiveness of the investments that the World Bank has directed, bringing long-term benefits to the environment and sustainable livelihoods.

The World Bank delegation took a photo with the leaders of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee and the provincial departments and agencies.

Building on the successes of the WB9 Project, An Giang province believes that WB11 will be a key strategic project, making a significant contribution to the sustainable development goals of the Mekong Delta. Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, Ngo Cong Thuc, hopes that the World Bank will continue to partner with and provide technical and financial support to ensure the early implementation of the WB11 project, bringing practical benefits to people in the coastal and upstream areas of An Giang, contributing to green growth, a circular economy, and sustainable development throughout the Mekong Delta region.

Mariam J. Sherman, World Bank Country Director for Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, East Asia and the Pacific, affirmed the World Bank's commitment to continuing its partnership with the provinces of the Mekong Delta, including An Giang province, to enhance climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and agricultural transformation.

Ms. Mariam J. Sherman emphasized the importance of building on the successes and experiences from previous projects to replicate the results in the community for faster and more effective implementation.

It is expected that in April 2026, the World Bank will hold meetings with relevant sectors to expedite project disbursement and bring about results. A delegation of experts will arrive in mid-November 2026 to support the acceleration of the project's socio-economic and environmental progress.

Ms. Mariam J. Sherman expressed confidence that with the efforts and close cooperation of all parties, the WB11 Project in An Giang province is expected to be implemented soon and bring benefits to the people.
